I haven't seen those tins before. It sounds like a good idea.
Where did you buy yours from? I may have to invest in one.

"Those with both debts and savings are seriously overspending. The solution is simple; pay the debts off before you save, maybe even including your mortgage. And forget the old-style ‘must have an emergency savings fund' logic, getting rid of debts beats that too."
Whilst normally I would agree with you, on this I believe that even if it is £1 here and £1 there, you can easily amass £500 in a short amount of time, which can go towards paying the debts, it can be considered £500 that you didnt have before!- Total Debt :£190,000 - Mortgage

I would have to spend another pound on a tin opener though as I don't possess one! So I'm £2 down already:D
I pay DD pocket money by bank transfer as she doesn't waste it then where as money burns a hole in her pocket. I do regular saving accounts on line and give a woman in work £5 each week for Xmas savings.
Spare £1 coins at home go in the mobile phone holder for DD to take for dinner money.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I've got about £150 in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50p coins that I've amassed over the years (was amazed when I counted them up a few days ago!). I've been told that our bank (Abbey) won't change these up (who can blame them - the queue behind would be outside the door). I know that these supermarket machines can do it for a percentage in return, but is it possible to get this lot changed up without it costing?0

Hi
Could you not pay them in to the bank and then withdraw the cash? If you ask at the bank they will give you cash bags?

I would get some coin bags from the bank, organise your change and take it in over a few days, to pay in to your account. Your bank should have a weighing machine that can tell if the right amount is in each bag.
I've done it myself (HSBC).Aiming to be debt-free June 2011 at the latest!!
