Hi all. Have been lurking for a while and have decided to take the plunge and join. You all seem to have done so so so well I was hoping you could give me some tips.

I have around a stone to lose.

I starting trying about two weeks ago and since then I have been following the below diet and exercise plan and have not lost any weight.

Breakfast - Bowl of Brown rice - Cooked would fit in cupped hands
Lunch - Bowl of home made veg and lentil soup - no bread
Dinner - chicken/pork/turkey with jacket pot/brown rice and veg

I dont snack and I have have 2 cups of decaf coffee with skim milk and 2 sugar and the rest of the day I drink dandelion tea without sugar or just water

I do 20 mins on the exercise bike everday, do the charlie brooks dvd 3 times a week, swim 1/2 mile twice a week and 1 hour of aqua aerobics once a week. I also walk the dog 1-2 miles everday.

What else could I be doing? Or am I doing something wrong, surely I should be losing weight by now?

    THanksxx

  • You may be under eating imo
Also you do a fair amount of exercise, are you sure you've not toned up a bit? Muscle weighs more than fat remember so isn't always the best indication

Have a read HERE - it's an excellent post on how to lose fat properlly without starvation (which doesn't work anyway) :)

No I dont seem to have toned up any. I do ache the day following the exercise dvds and aqua aerobics so I know its doing something. I have read (in Closer Diets) that I should be limiting my calories to 1200 per day.

1lb loss this week :D That's 4 losses in a row, and 6.75lb lost in 6 weeks. To say I'm chuffed is a bit of an understatement :p

After 4 weeks of success, I am now taking myself off the 1lb/week loss plan (BMR x activity level multiplier less 500 cals per day) and putting myself on a 0.5lb/week loss plan (BMR x activity level multiplier less 250 cals per day). My exercise levels will be slightly higher again, and I will stick to that for another 4 weeks then review :)

Mennie - I'd give it a bit longer before drawing any conclusions, 2 weeks isn't that long if you have just started the exercise programme. You're right 1200 is the minimum you should be taking in (for females), but it should be more than this on your heavier exercise days - I would say go up to 1500-1600 at least on your 1/2 mile swim days because you'll be burning a serious amount of calories there. If you don't leave your body enough calories to work with, it may store the rest of the day's intake as fat. I struggle too with the calorie/exercise balance, it's not as simple as when you're trying to lose weight through diet alone. Oh, and welcome! Hope you'll stick with us! :D

Lois you are brilliant! WHAT an exciting post to read!!! That is absolutely fantastic and I hope you both have the time of your lives.

I'll try to come back later for more of a catch up! Good luck everyone weighing in today!
  • "Lois Lane - Well done with the 1lb off - it shows the plan works even when you don't stick to it 100% every day. :j

The challenge is to lose 5lbs each month, however you won't be pilloried or humiliated if you don't achieve it, and there's no problem with over-achieving either, if you want to set a bigger target for yourself. :D

    LL"

Hi Lois - sorry been off for a couple of days (and had a really naughty weekend again where I was craving crackers and butter...oh dear) so just seen this now. Definitely up for the challenge! Hopefully that will make me think twice before crumbling at the weekend - do we work it out over 4 weigh ins?

Started walking again so really pleased about that - and started going back to the gym so cross fingers I might get away with the weekend stumble.

Back on it tonight - making homemade meatballs (on a red day) and looking forward to those!
:j Bring on the bargains!!!! :j

Happy to report a 3lb loss

On other weight-loss attempts, I've actually lost more in the first week but I am happy to maintain a consistent 2lb loss per week - in my opinion, such a rate would be much more sustainable over a period of time.

As I've said in LW22, I didn't entirely cut out chocolate this week. That said, I probably ate 50% less chocolate this week than my normal quota and I feel quite confident I can cut down to only a couple of bars per week.

My lunches and main meals have been a lot more healthy. As well as trying my best to cout out stuff like pizza, I have been incorporating more veg into my main meals and, for lunches at work, I have been eating wholemeal rolls; a much healthier alternative to the chips I used to eat every lunch.

I have had a fair few beers this week - I had three left over from the week before and I was out on Friday night and there was quite a few free beers on offer - would've been rude not to ;) I can quite happily not drink beers in the week (with my dinner and relaxing in front of TV). It's when I let my hair down that I can sink a skinful :eek:

I'd like now to do a bit more exercise. I have no excuse really because I live near an area which is great to go for walks and cycling...I guess I'll just need to find the motivation somewhere.

well done FG - that is just such a fantastic start. :T

It just shows that even making small changes can make a huge difference.

    Keep it up!

    rumbly x
  • Hi All,
After reading some of your posts, Its great to see how much you congratulate and help each other along, saying that, Can i please join!

Ive completely changed how my family eats - tried to cut out Id say 75% of the bad fatty foods so that a) my little boy can eat our meals now and I dont feel like Im filling him with fat and b) so that me and other half can feel better in our daily lives, We changed how we ate roughly 2 weeks ago when I joined Slimming World and we both admit that we feel more awake, Have more energ and feel happier in ourselves, so even if we dont loose amazin weight yet its better jst for these feelings!!
I lost 1.5 lbs at my first weigh in last week and I have my next weigh in on Wed!!!
You are seem friendly on here o Im hoping to pick up some good tips off you all hehe :D

I really need to improve my eating habbits, i think its the night time drawing in or something but i just wanna keep eating lately.

FFM: dunno where hurst park is? Never heard of it. Im too unfit to ride a bike, i cant ride up big hills anymore and ive not travelled any distance on a bike for a good 10 years. Plus i dont own a bike! I'll join the others sitting on a rug eating sausages on sticks :p
