Oh for a man that would cook!!!

Funny enough Chinese always makes me feel a bit queasy, fish/pie and chips smells better than it tastes and gets a bit samey, the Indian we had last night was an improvement.

But you are right, it can be just as quick to cook it yourself, healthier and cheaper.

    FFM :)

I remember one time Dr Dragon and I did an experiment with a ready meal, Beef stroganoff and rice, first night in the microwave (ack!) second night in the oven (not bad but not brilliant, took 30 mins to cook), third time from scratch (25 mins and fewer kcals AND we had used double cream so it was tastier!), proved one thing to us, we can do a darn sight better than most ready meals, and as you say healthier and cheaper

  • I do some batch cooking of bolognaise sauce, chilli con carne, curry sauce and shepherd's pie - huge cauldrons allowing me to freeze about 10 meals at a time. These are really cheap, low fat and take 10-15 minutes to reheat. I bulk them out with lentils and oats too.

The freezer is running out at the moment - think I might spend next weekend topping it up - see, you've made me feel all guilty about the takeaways (thank you). You'll be saving me £'s and lbs.

    Thanks

My pleasure FFM, hmm we need to do something similar for when Dr Dragon is hopefully back at work! Anyone got any ideas for something low fat/cal with dried barley?

  • WI this morn. Extremely, very very very happy to have lost 1.6 lbs.

Very happy as this has now dropped me to 11 stone 13.8 lbs! I'm now below the next stone marker!! (Okay just a miniscule 0.2lbs under but it counts ;) ). I have to-date lost a total of 5 stone :D :T AND!! On I'm now on my FINAL stone :D:j

This weeks challenge is to drop it down futher to make sure I'm not so close to the 12 stone marker, I have lots of workouts planned and thou I have an Indian meal out on Tues, this should be possible.
    This week I'm doing...
Today ~ Body Combat Class at the gym (did the Body Pump on Sat for the 1st time, I'm still aching and can't walk properly :rotfl: )
Tues ~ Gym (to counter-balance the meal out later in the evening, and more importantly quash any guilty thoughts :))
Wed ~ Football practice with C
Thur ~ Half rest day (tons of walking thou)
    Fri ~ Gym
Sat ~ Body Jam Class at the gym
Sun ~ Aaaaaand rest (or more likely collapse :p )

On a side note...how many posts was it before we need a new thread? Was it 1000 or 2000?

  • Hi Shell - for me 'lack of motivation' causes 'lack of time' - not sure if that makes sense?

I'm doing tons more now than I used to and I seem to have more time
I used to just walk Shadow, work and watch TV.
Now I work, walk Shadow, go to gym, spend time with C, cook proper meals etc etc...it's weird!
Hi vixarooni. I had a huge phobia of taking blood and let it put me off applying for years but I've now done it lots of times and actually quite enjoy it

    good luck today kpc

it has never ever even crossed my mind to find holding babies scary, i was slightly nervous when as an 18 year old working for a nanny agency i was given babysitting duties of a preschooler, a toddler and a 5 week old baby, having never come across such a tiny baby before..but it was fine and i went back for more until i left for uni.

got over wanting triplets when on my last student placement they picked 3 tiny babies for me to care for, all in different rooms with different ailments and no parents staying over..that was the hardest shift of my life.

kpc don't forget you are just as good as the rest of them if not better:D just picture them naked:rotfl: :rotfl: another week without anyone wanting to hire me, I could go proper insane or make use of the time , choosing the latter in the attempt to expect the worst and get the best lines:rolleyes: :D someone somewhere can't run their business without me:rotfl: :rotfl:

My ds has suggested I buy antiques and sell them at a profit:rotfl: bless, if only I knew about them I would be doing that:D

Going to cook my practice run at xmas dinner without the turkey, chicken instead but I always rehearse the meal, not that it makes much difference to the kids:rotfl: they would be happy with a pizza for dinner:rolleyes: or chocs:rolleyes: this year we are having the cooked breakfast on xmas eve instead of xmas day because it gives us more time on the Wii and with the kids:D

This years cooked breakfast will have no fried bread only toast, no greasy bacon just turkey rashers, no eggs cooked in fat but poached, no heavy sausages but quorn the kids love those, grilled toms and mushroom, just a cooked one but healthy.

I'll post my weigh in details and then come back and catch up properly after!

Delighted with another STS :D on 11179 calories for the week and almost 6 hours exercise (though 40 mins of that was low intensity yoga).

That was my 4th week at 1600 cals/day average and I haven't gained (I've actually lost 0.25lb over 4 weeks), so I'm prepared to give 1750 cals/day a go for the next 4 weeks and see if I can maintain on that. I'm feeling positive about it, but this is very uncharted territory now so anything could happen :)

Hope you're doing OK BB, how's the decluttering going? Are you back to work today? Thanks for the kind words about my exercise, I see my long runs with camera as a sort of 'biathlon' - you know when they do cross country skiing plus shooting? :p

Hello studentmidwife welcome to our gang! How are you getting on with the Pilates, do you enjoy it? Are you a good swimmer too? That's something I'm trying to work on at the moment because while I can swim endless breaststroke I'm cr*p at everything else :o All the best with the midwifery - I had my son at home and I cannot rate the midwives highly enough, you do a wonderful job :)

Hey FFM glad you hadn't forgotten me ;) I reckon you must be more active than you give yourself credit for to only have such small gains :) Good luck with this week!

Shell1000, sorry to hear that you're struggling to find time. I am quite flexible with my approach to exercise, as I like to pick good weather days for my outdoor stuff where possible. So I have a weekly 'quota' (3 to 4+ hours per week at the moment) and then fit in exercise where I can around work and weather! Some people prefer a much more structured routine, so I'd suggest trying different things until you find what works for you - good luck!

PCL - I'm not on the chart either as everyone knows :) Please do stick around and chat :) Hope you have a nice time when you're away next month!

Vix, what about a cheap weights set for home? That's all I'm going to start with. I would have been doing this ages ago, but the day I bought the weights was the day I was diagnosed as needing that op, so heavy lifting was off the menu :rotfl:

That's pretty cool Lesley, the texting from the gym if you don't go! What does the text say? I'm being nosey sorry :p

Victory, I'll still be hopping on the scales probably every week to keep myself in check! It's just the official weigh in I'll be doing monthly. Even now I look at the 4-weekly results as I find these numbers more meaningful than any single week so I think this will suit me better, but I know most people prefer the weekly weigh-in :) When are you getting the tooth done?

Jay11 please, please don't think this is a waste of time! I hope tomorrow's result isn't as bad as you think it might be. If one method isn't working, there are always other approaches you can try? Good luck with your interview :)

Lois £40 isn't bad at all, especially on a day when lots of people probably didn't want to venture out of the house! Keep us posted. Do you think you'll be able to still talk to us occasionally while you're on your travels?

Congratulations Raphael on your brilliant progress - everything you do seems to be going fantastically at the moment! Glad you've got those rest days (or at least semi rest days!) scheduled in! I'm beginning to sound like Bails the way she used to nag me :rotfl: (You back yet Bails? :))

Best of luck for this week everyone x
