Lose Weight 23

  • Hi Shell - for me 'lack of motivation' causes 'lack of time' - not sure if that makes sense? I spent a year or so 3 stone heavier than I am now and kept thinking 'I need to lose some weight', I'd wasted several years of gym membership by not going - always citing lack of time.

I did lose 1 stone motivated by the need to lose weight for a work assignment, but then stopped after a holiday/break as I couldn't get the motivation back and was small/thin enough to undertake the task.

I finally had a light bulb moment when I started my new/current job - don't know if it was the change in routine that helped (reading a book on this at the moment), but I knew that my confidence would grow if I was slimmer - I often have to be infront of people and when I am on the 'dumpy' side of life I have less confidence. I love my new size and am considering going for a new job/promotion at the moment - my confidence seems to be growing daily.

So, even though I had less time when I started my new job, I made the time to shop, cook nice meals (Rosemary Conley mostly) and eat properly. I work full time, run an Amazon book selling business, and have a family to look after (so part time taxi service too).

You just need to 'decide' to do it (easy to say - not so easy to do - I know).

    Good luck

  • i've got all 4 of the little women series, think i shall have to hunt them out and reread (again) i can never decide if they or the chalet school series are my favourites :)

kpc ill swap you my thick hair for your fine hair, even though its now short it still takes the hair dresser a good 1 and 1/2 hours to dry and straighten it..and she wonders why i dont bother.

granny can you remove me from the chart please?

ill still be here though, if thats ok, there is enough ot chatter that i would hate to leave completely particularly because its been so many months and ive got used to checking in here and reading most days and i want to know how your all doing, even when i dont comment on it.
  • pcl - I love the chalet scholl series too:j . Didn't it sound a fab school.
Well done on managing to get rid of your scales:T . You were really looking after yourself there. I think it sounds like any tiny steps you can make each day in looking after yourself are a huge achievement. Even if you just get some warm soup down you 3 times a day with some bread is a good start. Im glad you are going a way soon and now you will be looked after a bit. Sometimes that can be a huge help. And belonging ot the chart isn't the same as belonging the the gang on here. All are welcome, and some of us choose to be part of the chart if it helps us. Others, like missy, find it doesn't but she still is very much part of the forum.

    Excellent advice FFM:T
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

hi studentmidwife. Welcome! I've always had a hankering (is that the right word?) to be a midwife. I know i never will be because i have a phobia of taking blood through a needle in the middle of your arm, but theres always been a nugget in my brain to do it. Also some student midwives on the bus always complained about the course and realised why people drop out so much or never become one ect.

Anyway, this weekend has been really nice, i bought a sheep !!!!!!, a mirror and some uggy style boots that keep my feet soooooo toasty!! I went out for a meal with the family last night and then mum cooked us all one. We have a pair of geordies who cant say path, bath, laugh, grass, duck and most other 4 letter words :p

victory: hope it works out for your son, matt is defo dyslexic, its soo cute his writing, all over the place. Matts reading age is probably about 13, or younger, hes extremely slow. Its good that its been recognised though, cos for some unknown reason matts never been diagnosed and i think this is why he did rubbish in school, he got frustrated he couldnt read, or someone read too quickly ect that he thought he was a thicko. Im sure if he got the proper help he would have done better. The funny thing is hes now in a job where he has to write lots ha. Poor man.

missy: sounds great. I've always wanted to do weight training, im sure if my body was more toned i'd prefer it and wouldnt wanna be thinner. Trouble is pushing weights in front of men in a gym is not my thing, how embarassing!

right im off see you all later!
  • Hi vixarooni. I had a huge phobia of taking blood and let it put me off applying for years but I've now done it lots of times and actually quite enjoy it  (still hate having blood taken from me though). The course is hard work but I love it. I've got 2 kids and manage ok.

Good luck with weigh ins this week everyone :)

  • studentmidwife - hello :hello:

Being a midwife must be such a joyful job, I couldn't do it 'cos I'd be crying each time a new baby arrived. Babies didn't bother me 'til I had my own, I'd never even held a baby 'til they handed me my 1st  .

Mind you I don't like holding other peoples babies - they are so floppy and unpredictable - mine were good and sturdy and didn't 'flop'. A friend handed me her wee little 6lb baby to hold, first thing I knew, its head shot backwards - thought it had broken its neck  . Handed that little tyke straight back.

i always wanted to go to the chalet school or any boarding school because of course they would all be like the chalet school. was never allowed though.

i had a needle phobia and a suture phobia right through my training as a nurse, wouldnt let them take my apendix out despite the pain etc until they promised i wouldnt have stitches. i had ot be held down to have the jabs i needed for nursing. but sticking needles in other people didnt bother me one bit after the first time, and my sisters taste for exotic holidays needing jabs helped towards me being at least able to tolerate them.
  • :hello: Hi funkyfunkymonkey. I thought I would cry everytime a baby was born too but you're too busy thinking about what needs to be done next (I still cry when I watch births on TV!!!). Its a lovely job though and I can't imagine doing anything else. I'm working on the high risk postnatal and antenatal wards at the moment and I think all the walking is helping with my weight loss :D .

I still hate bathing other peoples babies - I'm always scared I'll do something stupid and drop them  .

  • The high risk wards must be the hardest area to cover.

I remember vividly the 'little room' where you go if you've had a 'sad outcome'. They showed us this when we visited the local hospital when I was expecting. I never wanted to see the inside of that room 'for real'.

  • Hi everyone -
Shell - it's hard but I had to diary my gym visits, and after nearly a year it is part of my week. I never thought that I would enjoy it but I do. I think it is important to fit it in where it makes the least damage - for me I go after work on Mondays and Wednesdays so am used to getting in after 8 now - obviously if you have kids it wouldn't work like that. I also have a personal trainer who texts me if I don't go, that certainly helps!
We have also just got a new dog who is getting me out walking every day - sometimes twice for 2 miles so am waiting with baited breath for the results ;o)
Here is the cutest dog in the world (to me anyway Marion!)
