  • Their Harvest Morn sweetened porridge in sachets is lush. 8 or 10 in a box for 89p. Bargain.

  • Their jams and preserves are really good quality as are the muesli, cheeses, biscuits, cakes and chocolate. I LOVE their greek-style thick yoghurt that comes in a litre bucket and that custard-filled brioche is delish. All of their own-brand toiletries and laundry-products are very reasonably-priced and are top-notch.

    Hi Mary,

This thread on the Grocery Shopping board is still current and may help:

Great 'What's Hot and What's not at Aldi, Lidl & Netto' Hunt revisted

As this is a grocery shopping question I'll move your thread over to that board.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I go for

    Cheap fruit juices
    Some of their tinned fish
    tinned tomatoes/passata
antipasti/italian vegetables in oil; they do artichoke hearts (if no-one else has raided them), wild mushrooms, and peppers. great on Hm pizza or with pasta.
Cold meats - dry cured hams and salamis
Smoked salmon and gradlax and cured trout
    Bottled lemon juice
    Tinned beans (bortolli etc)
    Olives
    Wine
Bottled gherkins - came top in one Sunday supplement assessment
    Some vegetables and fruit
    Crumpets.

If you are after them, cheap frankfurters

When they have them, some of their indian side dishes are good - bombay potato and dahl.

Their discount cola makes good loo cleaner

When they have goat's cheese it is good.

I am told their lobster is yummy but they have not had any in ages.

    Pollack packs.

  • Wow!

Thank you so much for your fast replies. They are really helpful. The thing about getting a lift (although very nice) means that you don't want to take ages trying to check things out.

    This site is so good.

    Thanks again, Mary :T

If you like anchovies, Aldi have them on offer at 59p per tin. I bought a bulk supply. Also, if anyone has bought or used their spanish flatbread, I haven't used it before, andI know it say you can't microwave it, but it seems hardly worth putting the grill on for such a short time. Do they get more flexible when they are heated, because they are very crumbly when cold.

They've got the Branston baked beans on offer atm. £1 for a pack of four, so it's worth stocking up on those. I also buy most of my veg there as well as passatta, parmesan, tomato puree and butter.
  • If you intend to spend more than about £30 don't forget to get an Express on the way - they are starting vouchers for Lidl again tomorrow.
