  • Re. Lidl paracetamol 19p for 16. It's cheaper in Boots! 16p for 16!

Made the trek to local Lidl the other day to scope it out and, I have to say, I was really disappointed! The best deal for me was the Pitta at 39p and Kidney Beans at 20p a can.

I thnk this is a good point because I've found that if you shop around (e.g. check prices on mysupermarket.com) you can find many things cheaper or the same price elsewhere, even if it's only a few pennies. I get kidney beans for 19p from Tesco, for example.

But for the busy shopper who doesn't have the time or the inclination to do this and also prefers not to buy the value range packaging for anything (this is why Tesco has been releasing brands like Trattoria Verdi), Aldi would be cheaper.

I bought some frozen salmon fillets from Aldi this week. They were awful! They looked and tasted nothing like salmon. Has anyone else tried them?

Just come back from Lidl's and they had a "Taste of Asia" promotion on which means basically that they get a lot of food in related to Chinese cooking.. sauces etc. They had jars of bamboo shoots.. 49p each and pashwari nans 54p, plus curry sauces etc.

They also had Twinings Everyday teabags at £2.49 for 160 which is cheap! I also love their cotton pads which are excellent, I've been getting them for years! They are only 59p are the moment for 200 pads.

Can anyone recommend Lidl instant coffee? I don't mean when they have Gold Blend on offer, I mean the no brand coffee they sell?

We like Kenco Rich Roast - just wondering if they do an equivolent, that's half the price :D

Lidl Fresh Chicken Breast & Chicken Thighs & Pork Loin Steak is good value for money - been buying it a few months now.

I don't know whether it's good, but my GF drinks it. Can't be too bad then... ;)
  • Most things are great. I regularly buy:

    Jams/Preserves
    Pasta
    Marinated Vegetables
    Ham
    Fruit & veg
Bottled Water - still & sparkling
    Ice cream
    Smoked Trout
    Creme Fraiche
    Butter

I have recently tried their own brand "Weetabix" and had to put them in the bin they were so disgusting!!:(

Thanks for the warning on the Aldi red onions. I find the same thing with the Lidl ones...thought that I was doing something wrong:o
I also find that the Rowan Hill wholemeal loaf from Lidl goes dry very quickly, especially if you freeze them...nasty! I do like Aldi's 'cheesey buns' though.:)

What's the problems with the red onions? I get them from Aldi and Lidl, great in curries.
