  • Always read the labels. Many items contain artificial colours such as tartrazine (E102). Many contain hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Don't like - in fact refuse ... to be told which way to turn my trolley. Therefore I don't use a trolley, so I only buy what I can carry to the checkout - it's their loss.

I think I'd shop more at Lidl if only they had baskets. Am I asking for too much?

We too would prefer a basket, we just put everything in the shopping bag and empty it out at the till.
  • Milton Gate bacon is excellent at Lidl, especially the sweetcure. It is produced by Tulip, which is a bit of a guarantee in itself.
  • the fruit and veg in aldi lidl is great ive never found anything nice in netto
they never tell you what they have put up to make there special offers, there all a load of cheats,[crafty b?]:money: I,m sick of supermarket price juggeling.i bought deep filleld tesco mince pies 89p next week they went up to over a pound and buy 2 for still more than 89p for one pack i buy honey in asda for 88p now they dont do but have a differnt one in 2 sizes for more money

    I'll throw in.

    Supermarket: LIDL

My top things to buy are:
    Bockwurst, pack of 10, chiller
    German potato salad (1kg tub)
    Frikadellen
    Peas and carrots, canned
    Kabanossi sausages
    Pork salami (the big one)
    Orangeade 2l
    Chicken soup, large can
    Luxury muesli
    Multivitamin juice

My top things to avoid are:
    Maccaroni Cheese
    Chili con carne, 800g can
  • I use Lidl for most of my food shopping and am a prosthletising enthusiast!!!!. Tesco Finest quality at Tesco Value prices ...... usually:beer:

Recommendations - Goody museli with 45% fruit and nuts ... 1kg super cheap anyway at £1.50 but regularly reduced to £1 (for a couple of weeks every 6 months or so) when it is worth stocking up!

Dried milk in tins cheaper than Tesco Value in boxes. And it is instantised so mixes easily in cold water unlike Tesco's ''cheap n nasty" offering.

Fruit and veg are usually good especially when reduced!

And chocolate is of the very highest quality - you would not want to go back to the usual Cadbury low cocoa content 'vegelate' after trying this................

Occasional 'posh' offerings from their European suppliers are worthwhile - fancy pasta, antipasta, Greek specialities etc - are superb and reasonably priced unlike similar stuff in upmarket places.

But suggest avoiding processed meat products from UK suppliers - eg pasties, pies, sausages etc. as the meat is of poor quality and contains bits of gristle bone etc YUK!! In particular Glenfell Steak Pies look like quality offerings in other supermarkets but are foul - a few lumps of chewey gristle in brown gluey 'gravy' hidden by an attractive pie crust. Cone on Lidl - it wouldn't take much to sort this out ... and it is exactly the sort of thing that would persuade a new customer never to return!

There are a few reasons we ask you to turn the trolley, as sad as it may seem Aldi & Lidl have invested money into researching the best till set up's and position of the trolley to till. So by putting the trolley where it is meant to, no matter if you are left or right handed it is in a more comfortable and safer position for you to put your items back in without causing strain to your back. In addition the speed at which we HAVE to go on the till means if any item is to fall off the end of the till it will go into your trolley if it is the correct position. As much as it is annoying for you not to want to turn your trolley, its the same for us, we are watched by our Area Manager on the CCTV to see if we're doing it and if we're not we can be given warning or disaplinaries for not doing our job. Since I'm a student, being paid £7.95 an hour you can see why we don't fancy risking our jobs over people refusing to turn a trolley.

As for the lack of baskets (most stores do not have them, only a small number of Aldi stores I know of do) it is because trolleys are less likely to be stolen than baskets thus costing more money to replace which is then passes onto the buyer in the price of our products. A trolley costs between £50-100, whereas a basket is around £10-15, if one basket a week went missing from a store thats £520-780 loss which has to be reclaimed in the overheads included in the price of the products.

    Back on topic ...

I'm addicted to the yog n fruit/yog n crunch, bit like muller corners but way cheaper.
  • Tried this lasagne and loved it ..it looks nice, it tastes nice and it's very reasonably priced. Its large ( 1kg ) and will feed a family of four with some chips / salad. Sometimes I go to Lidl just to buy this as it's nicer than any you can buy from Tesco/ Asda/Morrisons. Can't recommend this product enough, try it and let me know what you think!
