  • We get a circular each week for Netto. They really do have some great stuff, however I only buy branded goods. Got some great Fino sherry for Xmas £4 less per bottle than Waitrose. We save by buying only what is on our shopping list. We only go to Netto if there is something on offer we would generally buy. We then go to Aldi and really like their fresh veg.The free range chickens are very good and taste the same as Waitrose. Their German products are very good,(the Spaten beer and at Xmas the Ice wine was brill) except their unsalted butter which we found was rather fatty. Their Cheese straws taste the same as Waitrose but are about 25% cheaper. Their Barolo wine reccomended in the Guardian, was very poor as was their Prosecco. Their Tomato paste is good but their Pizza was very lardy. What we cant/wont get in Aldi we then go on to Waitrose. This shopping method has reduced our bills but not the quality of what we buy.

  • Hi I'm new!!
well I am going to stick my 2peneth in here...and have a moan about Aldi.

I watched a great programme before Christmas about Aldi - their products were tested and ingredients used by cooks and the verdict - the food was great!

So i decided to do a supermarket comparison (I currently shop at Morrisons).
Anyway...I went in the shop, had a good look round and liked what I saw, bought a couple of items...then I visited another shop near by...

...then got a hefty parking fine for having left the area to shop elsewhere- even though i had been in Aldi and did not outstay my welcome of 90free mins!!!! Hence, any savings i was hoping to make had been eaten up by the fine!!!

To add insult to injury a couple of the items i bought were not up to scratch! So i shall not be going there again!!!

Well thats one less in the queue in front of me at Aldi then :D
The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!

bit of an odd one i know but hade been using lidll cat litter for years, its the only thing i go for,(athough may be tempted by bits while in there!);) please ignore the next bit if you're eating at the mo...it clumps together so its easy to clean out each day.

Have been known to pick up a jar of cherry jam too, and my son loves nougat pillows cereal, personally i think they are an aquired taste though...

    Hydrogenated fats !!!!

This stuff is not good for you in any way shape or form .In fact it is very very bad for you.
If you look at most of the chocolate and biscuits in Lidl and Aldi this is the fat it contains PLEASE BE AWARE:eek:

    Thanks

I think you might be being a bit unfair on Aldi. I've checked the chocolate and biscuits I recently bought from there and there is no hydrogenated fat listed. The only time I saw it on a product in Aldi (although I haven't checked everything obviously) was in the pastry of one of their two packs of bakewell tarts. I think it's more likely to be found in pastry and artificial creamers (eg coffeewhite) and a lot of companies have seen the light and changed their recipes.
    ;)
  • What are Lidl's playing at? I WAS a regular shopper there esp. for their German flours which make lovely breads. Before 'Xmas one bag cost 75p. Then 99p and today it's shot up to £1.29. Sod 'em!! I'll shop elsewhere.(15th Jan. 09). Beers and lagers are also cheaper elsewhere now than at Lidl's!
    Auf Wiedersein!!

    Hi,

If this was issued by a private (ie not council) parking company then DO NOT PAY IT!

There's loods of good advice over on the Parking Fines forum (a sub-forum of the travel and holidays thread) where there a a few experts on the subject and they give great advice.

Private parking companies do not have the authority to 'fine' you - they merely send you 'invoices' asking for cash.

    hope this helps,

    S.
  • Lidl have Rechargeable Toothbrush Replacement Heads , 8 for 4.90 which sounds like good value. Does anybody know if they fit Braun toothbrushes?
