  • Also in the Linessa range in Lidl & displayed beneath a 'Healthy' foods sign: flavoured mousse powder; I bought the Latte Macchiato light. After whisking etc. as directed, it never set, looked like slop and tasted of chemicals-ugh. To add insult to injury: second ingredient listed: hydrogenated vegetable fat; how healthy is that?? Moral: look first!
PS Netto's luxury Christmas Puds as per 'Which' report were a hit!
  • Aldi

    Pro's

Bratwurst Sausages outstanding and value for money,
Specially selected chips. By far the best chips I have tasted from any supermarket!
    All the fruit and vege
    Frozen Nasi Goreng
All the Frozen "Cook it Eat it" range especially braised lamb knuckles
Oakhurst stuffed Pork and stuffed beef joints, easily feed 4 adults and well priced.
    Killie Pies
    Curry sauce mixes are fantastic

Lidl have Rechargeable Toothbrush Replacement Heads , 8 for 4.90 which sounds like good value. Does anybody know if they fit Braun toothbrushes?

I would be interested to know this as well!

The Old Kent road store seems to be ok for fruit and veg as does the Catford one. I got a bag of red onions for 20p the other day from the Catford one. And their vine tomatoes always seem to be quite nice.

But if you want nice fruit and veg, I would suggest going down to Lewisham market on Saturdays. My favourite stall is the one opposite Superdrug. They nearly always have nice oyster mushrooms and fab herbs as well.

Oh and avoid the Lidl Bourdeaux. It's vile!

Go at about 4pm or later on a Saturday & then you get it all reduced & v good quality as they have nowhere to store it if they don't sell - the markets not open for fruit & veg on Sunday.:j

than in the old fashioned way - real moneysaving is getting a cheap electric toothbrush & use it regularly & floss & then when you go for your six-monthly checkup the dentists says your teeth are so clean he only polishes them to keep you happy!:T

If you can do without electricity in your toothbrush, and clean your teeth the old fashioned way with your hands and arms...you can buy 4 yes 4 very modern toothbrushes for £1 at the mo @ Asda !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    :rotfl:
  • Best Lidl buys for me are -
Gold T bags - top quality cheap and strong, top flavour. Won't buy others.
Coffee - top quality at about 1/2 usual price.
    Jams
Definately vegetables (look for best quality) minimum price.
    Cup-o-soup, instant packet meals.
    Frozen Pizza.
    Fresh fruit juice
Poor for vegetarian food, other than veg.

    That's what I do too! ;)

Fresh Vale Wafer Thin Cooked Ham 400g (£2.19) - fabulous quality and not at all plasticky like Tesco/Asda ham (and considerably cheaper)
Pre Packed Salami Slices - fantastic taste and price (I think it was £1.49 for 200g)
Lidls version of coco pops £1.19 - kids think these are nicer than coco pops.
Not surprising the meat is cheaper in Lidl, Aldi etc. The conditions abroad (where the meat comes from-don't let the label fool you) where the animals are kept are in the main, appalling.
I'd rather pay more for my food & make it go further (we all eat too much anyway)
How anyone can justify cheap meat for animal suffering? The answer is......YOU CAN'T!

Following up on recommendations earlier in this thread, I've found that LIDL's dairy and meat are really good value. I especially love their potato salad, coleslaw and greek yoghurt. The tinned veg is really good adn a useful storecupboard standby. I prefer the jams and the jar sauces (Korma etc) to named brands.

In my local the f&v is often not up to scratch but I rarely buy it from there as we have a good greengrocer in our village. ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
