  • I don't tend to buy from any of these but Netto do their own version of Pimms that's less than half the price. It's called Jeeves and tastes great. Don't forget the salad to dip into it!

    ALDI

Milson frozen Paella and Nari Goseng - on at £1.49 a bag at the moment (says serves 4, I'd say 2!) five minutes in the wok and you're done.

Bramwell's sauces - tried salsa (and the garlic one), both make nice dips for tortilla chips, and topping for fajitas.

Corale beans - they get son's thumbs up!

Ashby (?) skinless boneless chicken breasts - nice and lean, and no stringy bits!

    LIDL

Large cartons Ice Lemon Tea (can't remember price), lovely and refreshing in summer.

Pressed apple juice in tall square tetra paks, my son prefers this to clear apple juice and is about the same price - certainly much cheaper than branded in other supermarkets.

Lemon Green Tea - only 49p! Don't drink it myself, but Mum says its fine.

In fact, I can't think of much that I haven't liked to be honest.

And it really doesn't concern me which way round they ask me to put the trolley - sure beats standing at checkout in Tesco whilst the youngsters have a chat about their weekend, turning round to talk in between every single item...... good job I was in too much of a hurry to complain that day, and feeling charitable cos it was nearly Xmas....
  • Netto isn't really that cheap, you have to watch out for their weekly offers to get any bargain prices.
Best buys at Aldi are their biscuits, especially the Classical ones(Classic in disguise but way superior). Their sweets are great prices although the mint selection can be a bit biased to more of the plain mint variety. The fruit and veg is great prices but doesn't really have a long shelf life. Their cheese is really good as is their orange juice. the frozen salmon, two in a pack is excellent quality and taste and less than £2.50. Ice cream is a bit naff. Their electrical is quite good and with the 3 year warranty it really is worth buying. Their weekly offers can give you some really good deals.
Lidl seems to have drifted off a bit recently and their offers aren't always something to get excited about. I believe that their childrens playthings ie. stuff made out of plastic is great quality, it doesn't snap or break easily.
  • at Lidl, love smoked salmon(great value & quality)
    fruit muesli
    bacon
    orange juice
    coleslaw & potato salad
Baresa pesto (both red & green)
    Kania herb&spice mix
Trawlic salmon fillets (marine stewardship council etc)

havn't really found anything I dont like!
Dont have Aldi in Norn Iron (N. Ireland to the uninitiated)

Vita cat treat sticks, my cats adore these and will even get up from where they are sleeping and come running
Orange juice – it’s as good as the big brands
Potatoes Au Gratin – are wonderful and handy as they have a long fridge date so always got at least one pack in fridge to cook.
    The humus is lovely nice
Ground coffee individual filter cups are exceptional
The 3 bird roast was wonderful, but I think this will only be at Christmas
They used to have frozen steaks which were divine but not seen them for a long time
I try to pop in as often as I can, as the weekly offer leaflet contains a recipe by Phil Vickery. They are really easy to follow and very very nice.
  • I love shopping in these supermarkets, it's like being on holiday in Spain and going to a local supermarket. I recommend:

    Lidl:
Pasta - unusual shapes i.e. types you would by in Costa Coffee and pay a fortune for.
    Chopped Tinned Tomato
    Fresh veg
Continental meats sliced and whole sausages
    Cheese
Lean Mince - much nicer than Asda, no gristle
    Pizza
    Bin Bags
    Dishwasher Tablets
    Australian Cabernet Sauvignon
    Advocat
    Diet Lemonade
    Orange Juice
    Low Cal Cranberry Juice
    All fresh fruit juices
    Chicken
Biscuits and cakes - all varieties
    Breakfast cereal - all varieties

    Aldi:
    Pesto
    Veg
70% Chocolate - fantastic quality and loads cheaper than generic supermarkets
    Belgian Beer

    Generally most things are great!

  • Since they built a store at the bottom of my road (nearer for me than Sainsburys) I have become a regular shopper.

    I love

    cranberry ceral bars
    icecream products all good
    continental meats chiller cabinet
    Taurus cider
big bags of popcorn maple syrup is yummy

Over all I think Aldi is great. We also have a Lidl which is accross the road but have tried things from there but not been so impressed as I have with Aldi.:j
