Aldi's fruit and veg are excellent value for money they taste good and realy cheap0

Supermarket - Aldi
Whats Hot - The conserves. Grandessa Strawb Conserve, 79p for 454g absolutely delicious, compared to £1.89 Bonne Maman 350g. Equally the lime shred and orange marmalade are just as good at 59p a jar. Black seedless grapes, althought these have gone up at Aldi recently, they are still considerably cheaper than Tesco (even when on offer) and excellent quality.
Whats Not - ? Yet to find anything
Hope this helps - happy savings!

In the past 12 months I have been living with my new husband and we used to shop at sainsburys, then due to money worries that was moved down to asda, then morrisons and now we do our weekly shop in ALDI's. It's great for 99% of our shopping needs. You can buy 12 eggs for £0.99 and 2L cola for a mere £0.79 and it tastes the same. We used to spend £120 for 2 of us and now we have moved onto ALDI's it's cut right down to £75!!!
We still have to pop into a bigge store like Tesco for stuff like spices and herbs but everything is ALDI all the way. You can buy 600g quality chicken (that tastes fantastic) for £4. Fruit and veg is always under £1 and has a good shelf life. Cereals are great too. Just because it has a different name doesn't mean that it's of lesser quality. TRY IT you wont look back!!!0 -
Haven't kept up with the thread so I don't know if this has been posted (or even if I already did:rotfl:) but I HIGHLY recommend Lidl's choc seashells
(think they call them Fruits de Mer) but they are EXACTLY like Duc'O ones and about half the price. With xmas coming up...Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

* Supermarket: Aldi * My top things to buy are: packets of crisps (not the greatest but better than the equivalent cheap ones at Tesco) Wacko biscuit bars (DH insists on a sweet snack for lunch) Muesli (I like the Fruit & Nut one in particular--very nutty and fruity for 99p!) Granola bars Flapjack bites Seasonal salami, chorizo, etc. Bratwurst Garlic tortillas Siana skin cream Dark chocolate bars (the Moser Roth and single-origin varieties) Eggs (not free range but they are the best price going around here) Beer (esp. the Bateman's ales, they are a lot cheaper than anywhere else and CAMRA approved!) * My top things to avoid are: Lacura cosmetics (the colors all seem to be strange when you get them on) Milk (sometimes ok, sometimes not good) Oat cakes (they always seem to be unpleasantly gritty) Meats, Fruit, Vegetables (usually ok but I get nicer stuff for the same price from the central market and it supports local business too)0

Anyone who watched 'The Money Programme' last night will have seen the Discount Supermarkets (Lidl/Aldi) v. Major Chain 'Christmas Dinner' challenge with Greg Wallace. Main course no difference - Hoorah! BUT Christmas pud discount version (@4.99 : 'pud A') compared v. poorly. Does anyone know which one this is, as I've a horrible feeling I may already have purchased enough for 15!0

Oh no..wished I'd seen it August but just wondering if it will have details on the bbc website

Sounds like the Aldi frozen turkey is best avoided according to todays Times, not surprising at that price though:
Aldi Frozen Whole Turkey, from £1.66 per kg.

Don't know but Which? (Consumers Association) tested Xmas puds and the Lidl ones did well but the Aldi one did not "A weird pale colour and you can see all the speckles of fat. It's like eating a spoonful of grease and tastes artificial.":
(Maybe that's the one they had on the BBC programme??) Did you get yours from Lidl or Aldi?

For mince pies, M&S ones came top but Aldi were also a 'best buy':

Not sure what day this was but hubby mentioned that someone ran a taste test on mince pies, it might have been his evening paper or something like that. Anyway they tasted Aldi's mince pies, and obviously others like Harrods, M&S, Waitrose etc.. The surprising thing was that Aldi beat Harrods.. Think I might try these mince pies instead of baking my own this year..:)Mortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️
