  • Lidl

    Favourites:

    Dark Continental chocolate
Rolled oats (34p for 500g - used to be 25p).
    Olive Spread
    Tomato puree
    Olive oil
UHT skimmed milk - froths up nicely for cappuccino
Canned salmon fillets (good store cupboard item)

    Electrical:

Breadmaker. I had the old version (was £20) made excellent bread. Sadly now on its last legs and very near the end of its 3 year guarantee (I use it at least 3 times a week) so I have bought a new one from Lidl today. The design is different so I hope it is just as good.
  • I forgot to add:

    tagliatelle (quick cook)
    crunchy muesli
Fruit and nut chocolate is so good I don't buy it often because once I start on it I can't stop eating it!

    Supermarket: ALDI

My top things to buy are:
    Bockwurst, jar of 5

My top things to avoid are:
Excite three blade razor system (unless you wanna lick blood)

Yes the Bockwurst are excellent and unlike most Hot Dog sausages they DO NOT have mechanically seperated meat in them.

The three blade razor system isn't great I agree BUT the blades fit perfectly in a Gillette Sensor Excel and cost far less than Gillette blades and are actually pretty good.

When they have it Aldi Tequila is great and at Christmas their Chocolate Brazils are addictive they are so good.

    Aldi - top picks:

    Dark chocolate with hazelnuts
Dark drinking chocolate (...bit of a theme here!)
    Pesto
    Gouda / Emmental slices
Tinned tomatoes / passata / tomato puree

    Lidl
74% Fin Carre chocolate - bit miffed as this has just gone up from 69p to 79p :(
Sunflower seeds (much cheaper than elsewhere)
    Pine kernals
    Chocolate ice cream

Netto....not likely to go in there in a hurry.....!
  • My favourite things to buy at Aldi are:

    Smoked Scottish Salmon (great value)

Wine (especially Australian Red and Californian Rose)
"Southern Belle" with Bourbon and a nice Orange-flavour
    dark rum
    grape juice
    fresh orange juice
    RED thunder energy drink
    Colombian instant coffe
    Gold Quality tea bags
Generally, frozen foods are great, especially pizzas and fish/seafood and frozen veg.
    PASTA!
    PASTA-SAUCES AND PESTO
    Cherry tomatoes
    bananas
    apples
    shaving gel
    chorizo
    salami
    desserts

I can't really think of negative examples

    Recommend in Aldi
Vitacat in gravy - I have two very fussy cats and they love the cat food in foil packets
    Orange juice
    flavoured fizzy water
    Black bin bags
    Instant Coffee
    Lager (red and white tin)
    Foil (very strong)
    Men's Deodorant (blue)
Also if you buy any special offers, eg clothes very good at taking back.
    Free parking

    Don't like
No baskets - and being told which way to put my trolley at checkout

    Definitely a thumbs up :D

    Couldn't agree more
about the trolley, they can get quite bossy. :p

Big disappointment today. Went to my Lidl to buy the mini-Stollen that everyone raves about (including me) but none to be had. Not even delivered yet per checkout chap.

Aldi has some excellent real ales IMO for about £1.39 a bottle

The Wychwood Black Wytch stout is very nice and about 50p a bottle cheaper then Guinness.
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

    Full support on these three.

But I find their instant coffee quite drinkable.

Agreed! I find the 'Granarom' compares very favourably to other instant coffees that are double the price. It doesn't hold a candle to 'proper' coffee but then which instant could?!
