I have been researching DVD recorders for a couple of weeks with the intention of buying the cheapest one that had Videoplus and could make copys of my VHS home videos. After reading alot of posts on https://www.avforums.com it seems their favorite "budget" recorder is the Panasonic E55 as one of its features is Time Base Correction which helps when copying poor quality VHS videos. However I am leaning towards the JVC DR-M10 as this has all the features of the Panasonic and a few more for the same price. The only downside are they dont have an RGB SCART input.0

so you want a DVD recorder with a VHS quality input.....your choice but I'd still pick the Panasonic over the JVC if given the choice purely based on quality of the input0

........ I would much sooner have a Liteon 5005 from Argos at £149 or the updated model Liteon 5006 from various places for about £169. Better still, wait a few days/weeks (who knows?) until Argos and others drop their prices again, as I'm sure they will.
The price of a Liteon 5005 from Argos on line is still £149:99 in the height of the January sales! (Today is Jan. 6th) Can anybody advise me should I buy now or wait and see if we shall see any genuine price reductions in the next few weeks? OR Is the Liteon DVD available elsewhere at a better price than Argos?0 -
Littlewoods Index have the 'liteon 5005' for £109.99 - they are not instock at most places i have tried tho >:(

As stressed several times earlier on on this thread, the Liteon 5005 can easily be unlocked.0 -
HELP FROM AN EXPERT REQUIRED
I have ploughed through the last 3 pages and am still confused. Is there someone out there who could summarise the different options/features/costs/ drawbacks etc. of these Recorders. It seems obvious that the hard-drive machines are the best, but which one and is it better to wait for the price to tumble etc. Good advice is hard to come by !!"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
Just to reiterate about the Boots offer - I bought the Panasonic DMRE 55 from the Boots in Telford (last one!!) and even though it said £199 on the offer board, I asked the checkout girl to scan it and it came up as £169.
I know they are priced correctly at £169 in Birmingham and they had at least 20 or so on Weds, despite this no-one seemed very interested so I expect there are still a load there. It's the store near the Bullring centre, also near the train station - I would have bought one there, but couldn't be bothered to carry it around the shops!! 8)Be an amateur!
