THE GREAT SODASTREAM DEBACLE - Penguin/Centenary/Evolution etc no longer supported.

I have a soda stream machine from the late 80's early 90's I think, (carnival) and I never ever buy a replacement cylinder for this, just take it to my local fire extinguisher fillers, and they gas up the old cylinders for me, at half the price of a refilled cylinder from super market. Hope this helps someone!
Plus, my local (FAI) filler sells drinks mix, not sodastream, but as good as, if not better.0 -
Well, after a fruitless attempt to get anything other than the party line from Sodastream, I finally binned my machine yesterday - it felt bad as there's nothing wrong with it, but I am not wasting any more of my time fighting Soda Stream to be a customer of theirs. If they can't see that what they are doing is damaging to a loyal customer base (admittedly this isn't through choice!) then I cannot be bothered to try and help them keep my custom any more. The Soda Stream was good while it lasted, but no amount of fizz is worth the faffing around they expect!
P.S Don't worry - I didn't bin the canister, just one last e-mail to them for a free post label and I am done!0 -
I'm interested in getting a Soda Stream before Christmas (yes, I know that there's no guarantee that they won't change the cylinders again), but since some outlets seem to be still selling unsupported models, I'm baffled as to which model I should be buying. Can someone tell me which current model(s) is (are) supported? Thanks.0

I'm not sure about the white 'Jet' being sold in Argos, but I have one of the new ones sold at lakeland. Lakeland stocks the Jet in silver/aqua or silver/grey at £49.99 and the Pure at £59.99. Available by mail/internet order with free delivery if you spend over £50 and a free gift as well if you spend over £60 in one order. As an extra freebie you get a £2.99 bottle of drinks mix free with whichever one you buy. Both the new Jet and Pure models are also avalable on the Soda Stream website and I have seen them on ebay too. For pics go to www.lakeland.co.uk and search for soda stream.0 -
Just gone looking at the German website - I don't speak German so can only understand a little other than the pictures!:o
What I can see though is that the new type of sodastream comes with 1x alco2jet gas cylinder (assuming it's the 'old' 35L size but who knows?) and one drinks bottle Soda-Club - TAUSCHGERÄT - Jet Color Stream frosty gray OHNE Sprudlerflasche und OHNE Alco2jet-Zylinder it's priced at only 14.99 Euros each / £12.18 on this German website : http://store.sodaclub.de/deretail/category.asp?catalog%5Fname=SodaClub&category%5Fname=Tauschgerat&Page=1
Yet the same models of sodastream are priced at £49.99 over here!   http://www.lakeland.co.uk/F/keyword/sodastream+gas+cylinder+refill/product/12520_12521
Comes with the 60L cannister and 2 bottles but still hideously more expensive even when this is taken into account! RIP OFF BRITAIN AGAIN IT WOULD SEEM!!
Haven't managed to find out if / where they sell the alco2jet gas cannister refills as yet?
Listen, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but OHNE means without.
It seems that this model is also discontinued in Germany, as the 14.99 offer is a TAUSCHGERÄT which is a barter or swap, so it seems they are offering it to their customers as an alternative too. Also, customers there have to rent their gas cylinders. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0 -

This is, of course, just my personal reaction to having been dismissed as a total nuisance who won't throw good money after bad; you must do as you see fit, but to be honest, I now wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw a grand piano. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Can anybody help me with this please. I've just been into Lakeland and bought a damaged package Sodastream knocked down from £49.99 to £29.99. Had wanted one for a long time as my old one stopped working and I threw it out. Then I found out that they've changed the cylinders, so I have 2 useless ones now, but... Lakeland had a damaged package one of those as well for £8.49. However, what bugs me is they dont do Tonic Water any more... just 'pop'. Are there any other makes that do such a thing?0

 Take a look at the last line of the email sent to inform me that I am permitted to purchase a replacement for my now obsolete machine!...............
.......The green line of text after the signature!!!!!!!! What a hideously hypocritical and vacuous comment in the face of the amount of unnecessary waste plastic currently floating about the planet due to their greedy decision which has now made thousands of machines obsolete.
Dear Soda Club Customer,
You may trade in your current machine for a new Jet machine only, for £15. This machine is fully compatible with the new 60 litre cylinders.
You will be able to return any existing cylinders you have to us, and receive any monies owing on them.
The reason for the change in cylinders was due to the UK being the only country in the Soda Club group to have the 5 thread cylinders, and due to costs of the raw materials, the decision was made to discontinue the 5 thread and to have the 3 thread throughout the company.
I am sorry for you inconvenience.
Please reply with you full postal address and telephone number, and we will give you a call in the next couple of days to place the order.
Best regards,

Please consider the environment - do you really need to print this email?
My simply reply to this is "Please consider the environment - Do you really need to make perfectly functional non-biodegradable plastic sodastream machines obsolete and only fit for landfill?!!!!!!!  :mad:Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. :A0 -

You can get tonic and other mixers at www.sodastream.co.uk.
BTW 'damaged packaging' at Lakeland just means it's a customer return... even if the packaging is fine they still sell returned goods at around 1/2 price. Well done on the soda stream bargain!0 -
NEWS!!Sodastream DO still supply the 35L (5 thread) gas cylinders that fit yellow adaptors.Spare (empty)cylinder £10.20 + VAT
Refills £3.40 + VAT
+ £2.50 P+P(min of 2 refills per order, that's why you might need to buy the spare!)You won't find this information on their website but if you ring 0800 085 8373 and speak to customer services there they will be able to sell you the 35L cylinders over the phone and provide pre-paid labels to return your empties.:j :TI spoke to a lovely chap called Trevor who has promised to pass my comments on re-how customers like myself are being misled by Sodastream's sales web pages and customer care advisors who are answering emails, and not informing us that they can still supply the 5 thread refill cylinders in this size and by blindly just offering a stat price for replacement of machines with the yellow 5 thread adaptor?!! :eek:Couldn't get confirmation on how long they will continue to supply these cylinders however?! Hey, Ho.....I still call it a result when I can keep using my 5 thread machine for now and not be forced to drop it into a landfill.
I'm happy! :T
(Personally, I think they are maybe planning to phase the 5 threads out completely, as soon as demand has dropped off enough and perhaps that's why they are not openly publicising the fact that these are still available!)
So get your orders in! Happy :money: fizzing!!Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. :A0
