Also it depends on whether you will stay on in education as then you could get a student account.Admiral_Adama wrote: »Curiously, on the subject of accounts "changing", what happens when I turn 18? I currently hold an HSBC MyAccount, which I've had since 2000 (i.e. the account itself). Previously I would have expected that I'd be issued with a Maestro card – something that I understand HSBC will no longer be issuing from February. I'm guessing, other than a change of name from "MyAccount" to "Current Account", I won't have access to any other "features"?0

Fair enough, but I don't earn £500 a month from my Saturday job .

I have made changes to my details. I will now only get the paper statements for my current accounts and the rest of the accounts will be done online. I have also requested that the only stuff I get is by email so more junk.0

No as I did not go totally online. I have gone online with all statements and all publicity but I have asked the only to send the statements for my current account in paper. I suspect that this is a short term thing as in the long term it will not be offered. One thing they need to make sure is that the online statement is accepted as proof for things like opening bank accounts and other ID.0

Surely they can have it in address and headed format.0

No I have not seen him around I hope he is OK.
What is this about HSBC changing debit cards in a nutshall?
I was reading that the fee merchants pay is 25p for debit card transaction. On such a low figure how can the bank make much?0 -

It may not be much, but averaged over the millions of debit card transactions that take place each day it can build up into quite a lot - not to mention the profit from the fee is far more than the average cost of stocking the equivalent cash. Visa, IIRC, charge more to merchants than Maestro and this might (I'm not sure) filter down to the bank in some way. Just a hunch.0 -
As I tend to find that I am doing more and debit card transfers.
One shop had the nerve to charge a handling fee but I refused to buy anything and have never been back.0 -
Are HSBC going to introduce a contactless card? See the article here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7850945.stm0
