Do most people come directly or through brokers for HSBC? Is HSBC one of those places where some products are only offered directly?

I think HSBC are one of the few companies who don't sell their mortgages through brokers at all..

It is good to hear as selling through a broker is a way of getting into trouble. Also a lot of brokers don't bother to read the paperwork.

I got an email from HSBC about car insurance. Is it fake? It was a general advertising email.

  • Hello everyone,
My friend said she pays £12.95 a month for her bank account with HSBC because she was told by their staff that all customers of all banks will have to pay for their accounts within the next 2-5 years instead of using them for free. Am I mad, or is this absolute rubbish invented by bank staff to get my mate to part with her hard-earned wages?!

Personally that sounds like rubbish. I work for HSBC, and if I heard someone using that particular line I'd be requesting that they not be allowed to sell that account any more, as it's basically making stuff up to try and sell a product rather than fitting it to an established need.

If that's the only reason she took the account, I'd mention to her that she should go in and try to cancel the contract on the grounds of a mis-sale. If the features don't match established needs, then it's not worth having.
