I have a question...
OH has a Current Account with HSBC and he just recieved his new card... its a Maestro again, (with £100 chq guarantee despite the fact he hasnt used the account since June when he shifted to Alliance and Leicester... weird) when are the new Visa Debits being phased in? He's got a Visa Debit with A&L which he prefers (before he switched he was sometimes having to use my Visa Debit or my Mastercard on some certain internet sites that didnt like his Maestro for some reason) but he said if he had a Visa Debit he might start using his HSBC account for bits and pieces again.
Ta very muchly
You say he just got the card? Check the expiry date, its more than likely quite soon.0 -

Over the next year. I'd say that you should call up/go into a branch and explain the situation and see if they'll do anything for you - might be worth a try.0 -

"The reason is that HSBC want to retain value customers and by doing this, the bank will be able to maintain or at least begin to maintain rates for loyalty.. nothing wrong with that."
Nothing wrong indeed. As a customer for 40 years,my parents before that and my grandfather a manager of the Midland Bank in London, many moons ago,i am glad they are doing so.Just wish the Isa rate was a bit better for long standing customers, maybe that is something they will look to do? Can't fault the regular saver.0 -
To be honest I am rather glad! I have been a customer of HSBC for many many years (I say many, about 9! I was 11 at the time, my first debit card - sweet!) so hopefully in a couple of years when everything is all sorted and recession is blimming recovering then HSBC will give some decent rates out.0

Thanks Lokolo and SS...
lokolo, card expiry date is January 2010 - ie a year's time. Same as his previous card was issued in January 2008 and expired January 2009. (He'd had the account since he was 16 - thats 21 years - and he had only had a Solo card!! He told me they were quite bemused as to why he only had a Solo when he swapped it to a Maestro)
Cheers SS - will tell him.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
I am sorry but I have been a customer for years and my loyality has not been rewarded.0

Curiously, on the subject of accounts "changing", what happens when I turn 18? I currently hold an HSBC MyAccount, which I've had since 2000 (i.e. the account itself). Previously I would have expected that I'd be issued with a Maestro card – something that I understand HSBC will no longer be issuing from February. I'm guessing, other than a change of name from "MyAccount" to "Current Account", I won't have access to any other "features"?

You could get a cheque book and the possibility of overdrafts as such. You'll go straight to Advance, IIRC.0
