In need of 1001 things to do with tinned tuna !!

Options
Since reading on MSE about £1 for 6 tins of tuna from Asda and telling my increasingly excited moneysaving hubby (who went on what I can only describe as a "TUNATHON" round the store  ) - we now have 84 tins of tuna ! Yes you read right :

84 TINS !!!

Please, please help me - I need a ton of tuna recipes - preferably quick cook or leave-it-to-cook-on-its-own stylie dishes !

I eagerly await your ideas for TUNAFEST 2005 !

Make a cream sauce, stir in the tuna and a small tin of sweetcorn and put it over pasta.

Strain through a sieve and beat up with mayonnaise and salt and pepper and use as a sandwich filling, filling for jacket spuds again with the sweetcorn, get some white fish and poach, hard boil and chop a couple of eggs, white sauce flake in a tin of tuna and top with mashed spud, put back through the oven to heat up, fish pie..... I am sure there will be some more suggestions....

Mix tin of tuna with mayonnaise (or half mayo, half natural yogurt, which we prefer) and add a sprinkle of paprika or cayenne pepper.

Toast some bread on one side under the grill (one tin does about 4/5 slices). When it is done, turn over and spread tuna mixture on top. Cover with grated/sliced cheese and you could add sliced tomato if you are feeling fancy. put back under grill until cheese is bubbling. Lovely jubbly lunch, especially with some ketchup.

    Fishcakes

Parboil some potatoes in their skins. Then grate into a bowl. Season, then add tin of tuna, some cayenne pepper, lemon juice and capers if you have any. Mix then shape with your hands into patties and fry on each side in hot oil.

Why is having 84 tins of tuna such a problem. It is normally long dated so you have about 3/4 years to eat all of it.

At the moment I have about 14 tins on hand as they where BOGOF in Tescos about a month ago.

I will work my way through them by having it sandwiches. Tuna, Rice, and noodles with soy sauce. Or by having it with a salad.

If you mix it will butter/margaine and add herbs and pepper then you have a tuna pate nice on toast or for sandwiches.

Also handy for unexpected guests that drop in on sunday tea time and need feeding.

    Yours

  • Mix with cooked pasta shapes, and some cooked veg eg tomatoes, courgettes, sweetcorn, green beans (whatever you have in really). Quick & easy pasta meal.

Have also made mini fish pies with the base just being tuna, tomatoes & sweetcorn, topped with mashed potatoes and a bit of grated cheese.

You could also add it to a cold rice salad (cooked rice, chopped onion or spring onion, sweetcorn, choppped peppers, chopped tomatoes).

Cilla on Coronation Street had an excellent recipe for tuna tonight but it is very difficult so I don't know if us humble OS'ers could attempt it.

    1 tin of tuna
    1 tin of tomato soup
    on toast.

    :rotfl:

(I will post back tomorrow with some proper recipes, when i have more time to look at my books! )

Tuna and tomato soup works really well - but I have it on pasta - it makes toast too soggy.
