Oooh, just thought of another one
tuna and bean salad
Mix one tine of tuna and one tin of beans (haricot, cannelini or flageolet - not baked!). You could add some finely chopped onion. Make a dressing - one part wine vinegar to 5 parts olive oil) and some lemon juice, season, then pour over the beans and tuna. Best to leave this to marinade overnight, then eat. I find 1 tin of tuna and 1 of beans does 2 days for packed lunches for work."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -
newbiemum05 wrote:Since reading on MSE about £1 for 6 tins of tuna from Asda and telling my increasingly excited moneysaving hubby (who went on what I can only describe as a "TUNATHON" round the store  ) - we now have 84 tins of tuna ! Yes you read right :
84 TINS !!!
Please, please help me - I need a ton of tuna recipes - preferably quick cook or leave-it-to-cook-on-its-own stylie dishes !
I eagerly await your ideas for TUNAFEST 2005 !
Throw a party for all of the cats in your neighbourhood and let them enjoy themselves. I am as frugal as the next person ,but to me Tuna fish is the equivelant of cat-food.
I would have to be paid an awful lot of spondulucks to eat the revolting stuff .It looks like pink salmon that has been hanging around too long0 -
Firstly, I would check to see what country they are a product of and if they are from China or elsewhere a bit dodgy I would take them back and get my money returned. If not, feed them to the cats.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0

Good Idea AussieLass, after all there must be a reason WHY they were so cheap in the first place !!!!!!!0 -
Someone posted previously that tuna is very good mixed with tinned peaches and mayo for a sandwich filling

Couple more:
Nicoise (? sp?) salad - add lettuce, tomato, boiled potato, green beans, hard boiled egg & black olives to your tuna. Plus dressing.
Tuna & pineapple pizza - my all time favourite topping. Honest! it's yum.
Tuna lasagne - make as for normal beef lasagne.0 -
Add a tin of tuna to some cooled cooked rice, chopped onion and chopped hard boiled egg... mix in some mayo and you've got a lovely (but very moorish) rice salad......lovely served with warm crusty bread."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

As a student, Tuna is a speciality of mine...
Crunchy Tuna Pie
2 cans Tuna
1 can Tin of Cream of Mushroom Soup
Breadcrumbs (about 4-6 slices of bread worth)
2 bags Plain Crisps
Cheese
Heat Soup and mix in Tuna. Season. Place in dish.
Crush crisps by banging bag with rolling pin (open bag slightly or it'll explode). Mix crushed crisps and breadcrumbs and place on top of tuna / mushrooms mixture. Top with grated cheese and bake in oven til cheese is bubbling.
Kedgeree
Rice
Eggs
Tuna
Peas (optional)
Cook rice as normal, to save on washing up, boil eggs in same pan as the rice. Can also cook peas in same pan (it's all gonna be mixed up anyway!)
When cooked, chop up eggs, mix all ingredients together and serve
Tuna Pasta
Pasta (any shape)
Tuna
Mayo
Curry Powder (optional)
Cook Pasta, stir in tuna and mayo, add curry powder for extra flavour.
Soup, tinned tomatos or pasta sauce can be substituted for the mayo.
Veg, mushrooms, etc can also be added.
Tuna and Cheese Toasties
Tuna
Cheese
Bread
Grate cheese, mix with tuna, butter bread and place in toastie-maker. Fill with tuna / cheese mixture and toast0 -
Just remembered another one - this one is a recipe that I saw on the tv, Georgio Locatelli did it.
Spaghetti with tuna and anchovy
Cook spaghetti.
Meanwhile heat olive oil and gently fry 2 cloves garlic cut into quaters.
Add 4 anchovy fillets and cook until they are almost melting.
Add can tuna, drained, and turn up the heat.
Stir, then add a splash of white wine or vermouth (about 2fl oz) or omit this if you don't have a bottle open.
Stir in 2 oz capers and 2 tomatoes, diced.
Drain the pasta (save a little of the water) then mix with the tuna sauce. Add a splash of olive oil, some basil leaves if you've got any, & season to taste. If it seems to dry add some of the reserved pasta water.
This is delicious and my young children absolutely love it.0 -
