You are right (in a way) only the US 80GB (NTSC version) plays the PS2 games but in emulation mode (whatever that means) the europe (PAL) versions don't.....but i have read that a software update for all 80Gb versions will let you play PS2 games however i can't be sure as i only have a 40Gb one.....
It means it uses the cell processor to 'emulate' a PS2 through software alone. The 60gb I have HAS an actual emotion chip in it so no need to emulate.
Good call anyways, I never knew about that:idea:0 -
To be honest, whilst im sure your right.........I personally wouldnt risk it as its similar to what microsoft have done with their updates. The PS3s firmware is updated every so often and so anyone that DOES get their PS3 'chipped' or whatever is going to be unable to update their firmware from then on (Presumably). This would stop them using sonys site to download free content, update the games they DO have, miss out on new features and possibly even stop them playing online.
Certainly be interesting to see how it goes on anyways..........
Well, Sony really messed up on the PSP and made it into the Homebrew Heaven so overall I'm not too optimistic at Sony being able to limit the damage once Blu Ray becomes affordable.
Saying that, I have no regard for anyone who pirates games, movies, music or anything. Throw the book at them I say0
