    sorry for a potentially dumb question - but are you still able to widely buy the PS3's that will still play PS2 games ?

    yes but you need to check your model number on the back of your PS3

    Generally speaking no. Theyre pretty hard to get a hold of (And only second hand now)

    thanks - just having a look online seems that the 60gb look quite hard to get hold of ? is this right ?

    thats what im just discovering - thats pretty rubbish for me
    my son whos 10 wants a ps3 sohe can play games with his cousin in italy but also still loves his ps2 and the 100's of games he has :(

    Oh yes i believe only second hand now......the 80Gb ones does play the ps2 games but not all use my second link and scroll to the bottom it gives you more info

    You are right (in a way) only the US 80GB (NTSC version) plays the PS2 games but in emulation mode (whatever that means) the europe (PAL) versions don't.....but i have read that a software update for all 80Gb versions will let you play PS2 games however i can't be sure as i only have a 40Gb one.....
