As there is so much variability in people's hardware (sky box, DVD player etc) and how they are connected, how about some more comments on how the picture looks through its built in TV Tuner? At least everyone is going to have one of those in the TV ;0) Thanks.
  • i got the 19" and its great with my 6800gt 1280x768

I have been looking at Dell's own Forum and most people seem to like the W2600 LCD TV. A lot of the posts have quite a lot of techie replies to using it to play games and most people seem to be happy with it. e.g. http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dce_W1700LCD&message.id=2375

There was a person who had similar display problems as posted on this forum but other people didn't experience the same: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dce_W1700LCD&message.id=2383

Yea, it is strange that the positive reviews when it was priced 1000+ easily outweight negitive ones. Like it was mentioned earlier, maybe the pice drop was due to the use of cheaper components as the dell rep said?

Just for anyone thinking of returning it - Why?

You might as well put it on eBay as they are likely to go for a stable price again now Dell have sold out. Be warned there will be high final value fees etc but you will at least get your money back if not a little more after all the costs.

Then you don't even have to argue with Dell about opening the product etc :)

I am beginning to wonder about that, doesn't seem legal to use cheaper components and have the same model number.

The other thing is that it might be very poor quality control at the manufacturing stage - after all it is considered a budget model even when it was £1000. I read similar horror stories about budget DVD recorders, some people delighted others returning it as faulty. We need some insider info about this, any Dell employees out there? ;)
  • Received mine today, looks fantastic as does the remote, very well made and packaged. Loads of leads inc. DVI.

    Sound is very good.

No first time set up, had to manually tune it in.

Picture on PC very bright and sharp using DVI (have dell pc with DVI out)

However when playing xvid video I get picture tearing all the time.

Also the analogue TV tuner is crap, doesnt pull in a decent signal, so if you have a poor signal expect a poor picture.

Freeview through SCART RGB is also a bit poor, lots of break up, ghosting and pixelation.

I did have problems with the PC picture until I changed down from 1280 x 1024 to 1280 x 768 now it looks great.

Saying that as a monitor its brill which is what I got it for and watch a bit of TV at the same time.
  • Just ordered one.
I hope they have oversubscribed and give a free upgrade to 32".
The Dell website still shows none.

I wouldn't have much faith in the "cheaper components" argument - this is probably just to calm people who have paid a higher price for an identical TV...

    Thanks
