For those of you who intend to return the unit to DELL as faulty, under the Sale of Goods Act and distance selling rules, I'm fairly sure that all you are required to do is notify DELL that you are rejecting the goods. It is then up to DELL to make arrangements to collect the goods at their expense, you are not required to return them.

I'm not 100% certain about this, but a search on the internet before you call them to reject the goods may save you some money if they try to bill you for the return postage.

in the same condition you received them and at your own cost and risk.

I got into difficulty returning something to Dabs under the DSR's, as far as they were concerned "the same condition" meant unused, preferably unopened. Certainly not plugged in and switched on, because the product becomes used and not new. Although the distance selling regs are supposed to protect the consumer some retailers interpret the wording of the DSR's quite differently.

I was worried about this as well. Please don't tell me I have just lost £350.
    Titch :)
  • Got one of these delivered yesterday for my parents, & set it up last night. It is very smart looking & feels quality. Turned it on & set up the Freeview box through the RGB Scart. At first picture was pretty poor. Flipping to the built in TV tuner meant we lost the sound. So started playing.
For TV, you need to tune in to UK (takes a fair while to scan through all the frequencies), but came through with sound in the end. Picture a little grainy, & I would struggle to watch it (I have a Sony 28" CRT through RGB Freeview). The on screen menu is absolutely crystal clear pin sharp....so this is what I expect the picture to look like for things like logos & text from TV transmissions (e.g news). Took a bit of fiddling with picture sizes & inputs (on both the tv & the freeview box) for it to work, but end result was very good. Close up (1m) I was seeing some pixellation & flickering, but from 2/3m or so, it was impressive. RGB was a must, screen size needed to be set at widescreen (which resulted in a small black band at top & bottom of screen). But I left impressed, & parents (who were replacing a blurry 20 year old 24" or summat) are very happy. Didn't try DVD or see any footie, so can't say how that is, but what I saw was quite impressive. I'll maybe try out the DVD at the w/e with any luck.
I wasn't allowed  to replace our Sony CRT (it's great anyway), but was tempted.
I would rate it (without doubt) a steal at that price.
  • Taken from DTI factsheet, the words restore them does not imply that it should not have been switched on.

Question is, does anyone know if Dell has something in small print saying they can charge for return of goods, anyone know??

Do I have to pay to return the goods?

When consumers exercise their right to cancel they are under a duty to take reasonable care of the goods and to “restore” them to the supplier. The term “restore” does not permit the supplier to demand that the consumer send back or deliver the goods, but only that the goods are made available to the supplier for collection.

The Regulations permit the supplier to include in the contract a term requiring the consumer to return the goods to the supplier at their own cost. The supplier may charge for the direct costs of recovering the goods if, on request, the consumer does not return them; this must not be more than the direct costs of recovery, such as postage or, for larger items, the cost of a van collection. Once the consumer has cancelled the order all money paid must be returned within 30 days of the date of cancellation.

The business is not entitled to charge for recovery of the goods if the consumer also has a statutory right to cancel the contract under other legislation, (for example because they are defective) or if the term requiring the consumer to return the goods is an ‘‘unfair term’’ within the meaning of the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 and The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts (Amendment) Regulations 2001 (see https://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/saleandsupply).

Remember that the 576-line image from the sky/tuner/dvd etc is 'upscaled' to the 768-lines res of the panel. It looks to me like this thing will only come into it's own when the internal scaler is bypassed (i.e., using true hi-def signals or a PC). Roll on UK HD broadcasts...

Well as I said previously we are really pleased with out W2600. I've had to suffer watching Aliens on DVD tonight just to check it really is okay and the result....

    EXCELLENT

In fact the other half is so pleased he wants to order one for the bedroom as well. I know further up this thread it says that the Dell site has pulled them, but I've managed to find it and order another.

A few of the neighbours have been round to check it out as well and they are all really impressed.

Maybe you could compare your exact setup (hardware, cables and tv settings) with kmkmkm and see what the differences are if there are any? Perhaps it is a setting some people are missing, it seems strange that one person would use Aliens as an example of how poor the tv is and another as an example of how good it is.
  • Well it's halftime in SkySports2 Doncaster -v- Aston Villa and mother just rang with update - they're still loving their W2600, even for live floodlit football.

They're NTL Digital -> Scart to Argos Scart switch box -> Scart Y-C (?, non-RGB anyway) input on the Dell. With Scart control ON on the NTL, but didn't notice any difference in picture whether that was on or off. (Though it MAY be the socket only shows as Active on the Dell when it is set to on, sorry can't remember all the setup permutations.)

    Hi kmkmkm,

You seem to be the most critical of this set, don't get me wrong I will be if the PQ on mine has ghosting or smear and is not of good quality. I await delivery of mine, in the morning. Could it be that you have some setting or cable type wrong ? I'm not questioning your technical ability, just hoping to try and make myself more confidence in my set. hesjane reported aliens as excellent. Now I know everybodies eye is different but, same film, same LCD tele but reviewed at absolute different ends Halloween <<<<< TO >>>>> Excellent. As Brodel suggests, could you and hesjane compare setup ?

I do hope you can get a good picture. Otherwise it looks like a load of us will be checking how to return them. If this happens I can only see pain !!!!!!!!

    Regards
