You seem to be the most critical of this set, don't get me wrong I will be if the PQ on mine has ghosting or smear and is not of good quality. I await delivery of mine, in the morning. Could it be that you have some setting or cable type wrong ? I'm not questioning your technical ability, just hoping to try and make myself more confidence in my set. hesjane reported aliens as excellent. Now I know everybodies eye is different but, same film, same LCD tele but reviewed at absolute different ends Halloween <<<<< TO >>>>> Excellent. As Brodel suggests, could you and hesjane compare setup ?
I do hope you can get a good picture. Otherwise it looks like a load of us will be checking how to return them. If this happens I can only see pain !!!!!!!!
Regards

I think some people have a different opinion on what they class as a good picture and are scared to admit they made a mistake. I'm comparing the picture to a 32" Toshiba CRT and it really is rubbish. It simply isn't a good TV (apart from PC use) and is nowhere near what I would call good enough. Blacks are grey, detail levels terrible and everything is soft and blurred (as mentioned in most reviews). I wish people would post pics of there 'great' pictures as my set isn't even close to what I class as a good picture.
The response time of 25ms cannot keep up with the most basic movement. It's that simple.
You will soon see for yourself if you have bought one. I tried to like it (as the TV looks great) but I cannot kid myself that the picture is good, it's not.
There is a chance that my set is simply faulty.
Wait and see, but if you like nice clear high quality pictures that get the most out of DVD's, and are honest with yourself, then you are in for a disappointment.Titch0 -
Everyone has got to understand, a plasma, lcd or dlp Tv will not give the same quality pics as a crt would, unless you pay megga money. But were they do come in is the sizes they go up to and still be very thin. The bigger you make a crt tv, you must make the depth deeper as well.0

Agree, nothing will compare to CRT when being fed a standard definition picture. To be honest, all the technologies have some problem. DLP has halo's and rainbows, Plasma gets screen burn, brightness and motion smearing, LCD suffers smearing and lack of blackness. Even CRT's have troubles. They are large and without pixel plus or other 'digital processesing' the pictures can be awful too.
I've got 36" Philips CRT in bedroom and I cannot watch analgue tv on it when compared to Sky feeds. I;ve got a 42" Viera in living room and it knocks the CRT into a box for DVD's, but not so big on Sky AND forget analogue all together.
CRT's have been around 50+ years, LCD's less than 10 - in time they'll be better but not for now. I think the problem is we're all buying a piece of technology that, to be honest, isn't compatable with our crummy home set-ups (PAL signals, scart connections, etc).
It looks like the Dell is designed for HD inputs and PC use.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
tonyfaestoney wrote:Right, sussed it. Hope these work or you might have to copy and google search them. They do look bad and it is not the camera (Ixus700). As everone else seems to be saying, tv is definitely better viewed from a distance.
I suppose for the money it is ok and the HD will make all the difference although that is some way away.
If you want any other pictures, let me know. I took the dvd pictures of Gothika as it is filmed quite darkly.

'tonyfaestoney' posted pics of Gothika running on his Dell LCD. It is very similar to the picture quality I get when when running DVD scenes with dark pictures and fast moving images. I have tried loads of different connections, leads and settings, but the pictures 'tonyfaestoney' posted are about the best I can get.
Now for me those pictures are totally unacceptable. So does everybody think that tony's pics are unacceptable or do some people think that these pics are acceptable picture quality!!!
I have over 200 DVD's, so top quality DVD picture was very important to me, and those pictures above are simply garbage. DVD's should look crystal clear (unless its a bad transfer on the physical disk). That's why I bought DVD's to replace my videos. In fact, tonys pics are far worse than betamax/vhs quality.Titch0 -
Yes, seen these pictures earlier and have to agree they are poor - but indicitive of LCD technology.
I've got a DELL on order, if it's in any way not spot-on (I'm a bit picky when it comes to picture quality), then it will be going back. No big deal, not DELL's fault, it will be down to my personal preference and useage needs.
However, if I were to replace the DELL with another LCD I'd be struggling. Looking on other forums, Samsung's have smearing too (and these cost £1,000 upwards), and more or less every other band has some sort of problem relating to picture quality (except the very expensive Lowe/B&O ones!). Maybe we're just not ready (or rich enough) for HD LCD yet!.
Anyway, will be getting my DELL Friday, so will post feedback then for everyone. Not that I'm an authority, but we need some more pos/neg feedback on here for others to read.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. I didn't realise that those pictures where not abnormal for LCD technology. I should have done it a bit more research to be honest.Titch0 -
No doubt I'll get some technical forum member attacking my sweeping statement about lcd technology, and I am sure you can get state of the art 8ms, super black pictures sets out there, but for £360?. I think it was worth a punt to try it out at this price.
At https://www.medionshop.co.uk, they are selling a Medion 32" LCD for £589 new. On an AV Forum, this got a massive slating for being sold as HD Ready, when it wasn't (and the pciture was poor too). Same again for the new Samsung LE26R41B LCD - people were having jagged lines all over the place when playing x-box games and more smears than a GP's clinic.
There are other folk who buy the cheap Alba 42" plasma from catalogue stores and are well happy with it. Until they see a Panasonic Viera!.
I was going to buy a 50" Sagem Rear DLP, but I could see rainbows (no-one else could of course), and it was making me feel sick. Yet other folk are paying £2,500 for this technology and happy with it.
I guess TV's are always going to be subjective and in the eye of the beholder.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
Was tempted into getting one of these but the OH was not so keen.
