Download and install and run https://www.ccleaner.com that should sort it.
  • I think Mr Skint may be right about the cache causing problems. That "hanging" may be due to old files trying to find connections. Please post again if a cache clean doesn't help the situation.

Same here. As I said earlier, I ran the cleaner and it made no difference to me either. As redfox says, the hanging is longer now.

Also getting the site maintenance message a lot.

    Hi folks

I think it is going to take three or four days before the forums are up to speed. The short term problems should be outweighed by long term benefits. No more breakdowns, crashes or slowness (so we hope)

The new servers are UK based and much more powerful. We hope to move the main site over to them once the forums are done :)

well - technically, not true. its part of the cron jobs for vbb to index threads and thread titles - i think every 30 mins it rebuilds forum info and only then do the changes in titles become evident.

this is also why you don't see the number of people that have viewed a thread increment straight away - to save load on the server (its a vbb thing) - forum views happens with data being read from a server side cache with a minimum of updates.

Still problematic. Running CC made no difference. Sorry.

windym: you are probably browsing at work are behind a proxy of sorts - if you see the old message, that means your machine is fetching the data from the old servers - esp considering the 'back' button does not actually send a proper request for the page....

when you DO get the error, try pressing 'ctrl-refresh' or 'shift refresh' (if you are on a mac/pc) to force your local proxy to retrieve the page again.
  • I use Firefox as my main browser and have had no problems to speak of but I just tried IE and found I had the "hanging" problem.
