How do you clean the bags?

I don't, my husband does when he washes up :D We don't have a dishwasher but they seem to come out fine when just done with the normal washing up. He justs turns them upside down on the drainer to dry out. I got the £3.99 JML ones after reading all the posts on here, tried cheese, tuna & onion and today had ham & cheese and they were great, even with our rubbish toaster! Sainsbury's long life wholemeal bread fits in the bags without having to be cut or squashed too much as well.
  • Got the JML ones in Boots (on Boots card points - mse after all) used twice and admit I'm a little quirky with my toasties.
1st = "Mr Paul Rankin" potato cakes sandwiched with mushy peas and ketchup. RESULT: half-cooked and bursted in microwave to finish. BUT...
2nd= turn toaster up to full and pop down for second time = "MR PR again" with half tin of Heinz veggie beans and bangers (careful not to overfill - had rest of tin cold, is it only me that loves cold beans?) = result and far less messy than my toastie maker.
Need to try them out with Pop Tarts before come to a consensus.
DECLARATION OF INTEREST: Am a toastie addict and have "weirder" inventions than most.
  • I got some of these from ebay, the first attempt didn't go that well as the bread got burnt. There might be a knack to getting the right balance of the filling being melted and the bread being toasted without being burnt.
  • Can anyone share their tips on how to melt their cheese without burning the bread?

i you toast for 4 mins , half way stop the process and allow the cheese to melt, take it out for like 20-30 secs then put back for the remainder
  • I don't even have a toaster :( I normally use the grill or sandwich toaster!

    then get one

    much cheaper

you will use it more in the long run..

and its quicker than those two as well
  • Thanks OP, I bought some JML ones from Boots not so long ago and am now addicted to cheese, ham and tomato toasties. I don't have a variable width toaster and after a couple of goes the bag now has holes. Should they be more durable than this?

Also, has anyone tried cooking fish fingers in them yet? I want to but a bit scared it might ruin the toaster and bag!

    Hi

I use the JML ones and must have used the same bag at least 20 times so far .... no holes at all in it ...

My toaster is " wide slotted " so perhaps that makes a difference .... in a " normal " toaster the toasta bag would obviously fit alot tighter and would perhaps burn ....

If i was you i would sent the bag back to them .... i would imagine that they would send you a replacement one ....

I'll try doing fish fingers in them during the week and let you know how they turn out ..

Anyone got any suggestions for some other fillings ?

    terri x

  • I tried these a couple of years ago too and didnt like them at all.
Plus I had to squash them together to fit into my toaster.

I just bought a panini maker and its great! Wonder how long I'll use it for before it ends up in the back of my cupboard lol
