Hi Everyone, forgot to ask;
Has anybody got any experience with the challenge 'Living on 4K for a year'. If so any tips and pointers or thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Folks,
Well my figures make depresssing reading. I have increased my debt from £17,625.30 to £18,636.10 after doing so well. That has increased my debt free date back up from March 2015 to May 2016.
What an idiot.
Anyway just got to get back on the band wagon and try and get back into good habits. I have reset and changed my signature. I get paid on friday so I am going to start a few challenges again.
Hopefully this time I can stick to it.
Thanks for your support folks.

Hi Folks,
Right I have worked out my finances for the 'Living on 4K for a year' challenge. As I am starting later I am going to run from june 2009 to may 2010, or I might just do the last seven months of this year pro-rata and see how I get on and then join for the whole hog next time.
Right all my outgoings that are non-essential are:-
1) Home telephone = £10.50 p/m = £126 p/y
2) Mobile Phone and Broadband = £44.00 p/m = £528 p/y
3) Groceries = £60.83 p/m = £730 p/y
4) Tolietries = £15.00 p/m = £180 p/y
5) Cleaning products = £5.00 p/m = £60.00 p/y
6) Diesel = £66.66 p/m = £800 p/y
7) Badminton = £52 p/m = £624 p/y
8) Extras = £79.30 p/m = £952 p/y
Total for the year = £4000
With respect to the diesel I do actually use alot more than that but I have calculated approximately how much per year I use for work, which I have classed as essential and therefore not included. The diesel figure quoted above is for none work related travel. I have also rounded the yearly figures. I am currently spending about £3 per day on food. So I am going to try and reduce this to £2 per day on food, which gives £730 p/y.
Anything else I need has to come out of the extras section.
Well once I get paid on friday I will give it a go, I really need to push myself. I am going to try and make more savings elsewhere and do other challenges, so watch this space and I will let you know how I get on.
Take care everybody and wish me luck :j

Good Morning all,
Hope everybody is well.
I managed a NSD yesterday. I have not joined the challege for this month. However, thought I would try and get back into the swing of things before next months challenge.
Tonight I am going to sort out some cheap recipes, so that I can plan my meals for my 'living on 4k a year' challenge, need cheap recipes to keep my money to £2 per day. I know there are loads of cheap recipes on here, just a case of traweling through them all.
I am away this weekend, back down at my parents for the bank holiday weekend. But when I come back I am going to try and get some books on amazon next week. I have hundreds of books.
I am also going to try and get back into the match betting. I did really well on it last time making about £1200.
Right well take care everybody and have a good day

Morning Money Fritter!
I was having a lurk lastnight but didn't have time to post! One thing I thought was... you've GOT to do matched betting!! I wouldn't know where to start myself but I remember you making so much from it last time, I hadn't realised it was that much though!! That's fab!
I haven't tried the living off 4k challenge myself, but I can imagine there's masses of fantastic support on the actual thread! I would love to attempt it but it is so not for me!
You're going to do fantastic I'm sure you are. :j
Good luck with everything...the challenges, selling your books, your meal planning...just everything! Last time I found you such an inspiration and I look forward to following your diary again.
Don't beat yourself up too much about going back a little bit, all part of the journey!
Hope you have a great bank holiday weekend!Initial Debt July 2020 - £6,772.80

Good Luck Bowski,
A few people in work have started a weight club were you get weighed every wednesday. You pay £1 and it goes towards a charity. However, if you put weight on you have to pay £2.
Big incentive, not to lose money never mind the weight :rotfl:

Haha... that sounds like a brilliant idea.:D I've tried all kinds of stuff like that before with friends/family and it just never works out!!
I don't know how long I'll last this time, I normally lose about 2 stone and then leave thinking I can do it myself... but then end up joining again a year later and a stone heavier than the last time I joined!! Although this time was different, I'm 1.5 stone lighter than the last time I joined which has got to be a good thing lol Thanks for the good luck wishes...I'm gonna need it I can tell ya! :rotfl:
So have you joined the weight club? I'm not saying you need to, just with you being pleased to have lost 3lb, makes me think you aren't content with your weight at the mo.Initial Debt July 2020 - £6,772.80

Hi Bowski,
Yes I have joined the weight club, though I would try and have something to focus on and a goal to achieve.
As for my weight, I need to lose about 1 stone really. About two years ago I put on loads of weight and just thought enough was enough. So I started just eating healthy and playing lots of badminton and running, I lost about two stone and went down to the right weight for my height, 13 and a half stone. I am quite a tall bloke (about 6ft 2) so I can hide the weight :rotfl:
Anyway recently, I have not been playing badminton much or keeping fit and I have been eating lots of rubbish, and put on a bit of weight again. So thought I would give it a go. I have also started playing badminton again and running. So fingers crossed. It is all about willpower, but a lot of the time mine is non-existent, give me a choc hobknob anyday. :rotfl:
