Do you know if this applies to Natwest First Reserve SOLO cards, are they going to keep issuing a debit card on it in the form of the new Visa card or will it revert to a simple ATM card?
Im not sure to be honest.
At a guess I would like to think they would also change to visa debit.
But im unable to confirm or deny it sorry.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
The following applies for Natwest: As of 5th September 2009 Natwest will issue Visa debit cards to replace all servicecards & cashcards. The Servicecard 100/250 will be replaced with a Visa Debit card with either £100 or £250 cheque guarantee limit, respectively. The Cashcard will be replaced with an electronic Visa Debit Card. This card is NOT a Visa Electron, but acts as the same way (you must have the funds in your account for the transaction to be authorised) This card will not have a cheque guarantee. I believe that Barclays, Lloyds TSB & HSBC currently issue these types of Visa debit cards on their basic accounts. The date is set to 5th September but the cards may be available before that date. Hope that clarifies any questions :-)0

So just to clarify with Natwest:
Step Account: Visa Debit (Electronic) - No Cheque Guarantee
Current Plus/Advantage Gold: Visa Debit (Electronic) No Cheque Guarantee/or Visa Debit Card - £100 or £250 Cheque Guarantee
Private/Advantage Private: Visa Debit - £250 Cheque Guarantee
I won't go into detail about international/Polish Accounts as I will be on here forever. But I'm sure you get the drift. If you have a solo card you will get a Visa Debit (Electronic) or a Visa Debit for Servicecards. The same will apply for all RBS customers (The Cashline Plus and Highline cards)0 -
Have been reading the posts here people and I would like to say that both RBS AND NATWEST are rebranding their cards. Many customer service agents both at Natwest and RBS are unaware of this change and can offer you no assistance at the present time. There is a leaflet that can be obtained by natwest which is basically a change to the terms and conditions affect account holders from the 5th September this year. It states in this leaflet about the change to Visa Debit cards (the leaflet is light green in colour) I assume that a similar leaflet is available to RBS customers.0

If 'Peterm25's posts are taken literally then it would seem the First Reserve card will in fact become Visa Debit without cheque guarantee because it is a cashcard.0 -
In with my statement this month I also received a leaflet "Important Information changes to your Terms and Conditions" after studying these a few thinks I picked up where new conditions detailing Visa Debit cards and a mention that if it has a Cheque Gurantee hologram it will act like a Maestro and will not always require authorisaition and if it doesn't then will act like a solo and will check balance for every purchase.
I have also noticed section 13.1.1 now also refers to "ATM card" which in section 13.1.3 goes on to say that it will display the "Plus" or "Cirrus" logo and can only be used in cash machines.
I would therefore say it sounds like savings accounts will have ATM cards only.0 -

NatWest effectively have an 'ATM only' card already though it is not called that - it is for their Cash Account - an account whose card doesnt come with a Solo Debit facility - maybe thats what that condition relates to. As a First Reserve Savings Account user I fully hope (and expect) that the Debit Card Facility will continue on my new card when the changeover happens.0 -
I believe that the First Reserve Cash Cards are being replaced with ATM cards only, but do not quote me on this. Natwest are doing away with the Servicecard branding. You will either get a Cash Card (ATM) or a debit card (VISA) with all accounts that are applicable. I hold a Natwest First Reserve Account and have a Solo Cash Card with it. To be honest I have never used the card to purchase anything and a debit card on a savings account is pretty much unheard of anyway. My Servicecard 250 will simply be replaced with a Visa Debit Card, but should retain the £250 cheque guarantee. Not sure if they will continue to isse the "Gold" card as a debit card. I am just pleased they are using Visa. Maestro is very good don't get me wrong, but some some purchases over the internet and in many foreign countries it is just not accepted. Natwest keep bugging me for a credit card, but I just don't want one - so I welcome the Visa debit card with open arms - :j0

I will let you into another secret too - Apparently in a few years time banks are to do away with cheque guarantee cards altogether. Many retailers now do not accept cheques as for of payment (even with a guaranntee card) I have had a cheque card since I was 18 and have not even once used my card to guarantee a payment.0

I just received my bank statements today from both RBS and Natwest. Both statements had a booklet about changes to my terms and conditions. Both of the booklets made reference to the issue of Visa Debit cards to their customers. It also said that the new terms and conditions take effect from 15th August.0
