  • Ive just had another call from UK Today asking me to poarticpate in a market research survey. When I said I didn't have time he (Richard mmm??) got quite cheeky and said I must make time! I did in fact have another phone ringing which would have been very audible to him but I had to hand up on him as he still kept to his script! So annoying and Telephone prederence say they can't stop marketing calls ..
  • I have found a way to discover if a call is from an Indian call centre. Just ask where are they and what the weather is.

The foreign call centres all fall for this.

I work in a call centre and I do get customers asking where I am and the weather myself.

I have been off work for a few months due to a hip replacement op and at first I was receiving at least one call a day - usually from someone foreign saying they were from Microsoft. I started off stringing them along for a while and then saying that I knew what they were up to when, generally, they would ring off. As the days went by I started saying to them that nearly everyone in the UK knew that they were thieves and that the only people they were managing to con out of their hard-earned money were older people who didn't know about the scam. I asked them how they slept at night and told them that what they were doing was very sinful. After a few days of this I now no longer receive any calls. I think I have been blacklisted lol

Just had todays #IndianScamFkr on the phone. He was calling from "Pensions Advisory UK".

Me "What did you say your name was"

    SF "Jude. J U D E"

Me (yeah right......more like Jaswinder) "As in the song?"

    SF silence

Me (on internet) "Do you mean UK Pensions Advisory Service"

    SF "Yes that's it"

Me "Can you tell me the registered address of UK Pensions Advisory Service"

SF "I do not have that information"

Me "OK never mind. Can you tell me where you are calling from"

    SF "Leamington Spa"

Me (more like Bangalore) "Oh that's nice. What address in Leamington Spa"

SF "I do not have that information"

Me "Oh dear. Can you ask the person next to you where he is please".

SF silence "Can I call you back later"

Me "Suuuuuureeeeeeee. It sounds very interesting what you are calling me about. Be sure to call back"

    Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Now, I've worked with loads of really bright Indians over the years.....real ones as opposed to Brick Lane ones. Unfortunately these IndianScamFkrs are giving a billion people a bad reputation.

Can someone advise how to stop getting international telephone calls please. I stopped answering the telephone if it said the incoming call was international as we are getting 2 - 3 a week. Now, yesterday morning, I received a call at 1.15am and that isnt funny and so I must find out how to stop these calls.

I too get calls from an Indian call centre (always with English sounding names, like William or Harry) telling me I have a problem with my computer - every day for the last two weeks! I've tried hanging up, telling them I don't have a computer, asking them to stop calling....but they still keep on, often at unsociable hours. The number just comes up as International, so I have to answer it as we have relatives abroad and it may be one of them. What can we do to stop these calls???
  • If you give then the time of day you end up on "a suckers list".and be sold to other scammers. If it is important family business, someone will leave a message on the answering machine/voice mail.
  • The Council has two versions of the electoral roll, one which they sell to the public and one which is kept private. You have to tell the Council that you want to be removed from the one they sell to the public. They have to comply, by law.

You need to come off the 'Edited Register', it's 'edited' because people are removed. The full version is used for elections and not sold, neither version contains phone numbers - I triple checked with an elections office...

I just had UK Today tell me they get numbers from the electoral roll, after incredulously asking them to repeat it I told them I had checked and they, UK Today, were lying - a couple of moments later the phone line went dead. Wonder if this time they will remove my number from their database - I can live in hope.
  • For the last couple of days, I've been getting mostly the 'silent treatment' from an undisclosed number. On the last occasion (the 5th such call today) I actually spoke to someone who identified himself as 'Patrick' from 'Family Dwellings'.

Needless to say, I didn't bother enquiring what his business was but asked him (very politely and probably more politely than he deserved) to refrain from calling me. I also asked him where he was calling from, to which (I did suggest Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata) I was surprised I got a reply, namely Kolkata. He even asked me why I knew he was from Kolkata. Well, the accent was one hint (although not conclusive in itself) but I also told him I didn't believe his name was Patrick. I await further calls ...

Has anyone else been pestered by this "Family Dwellings" mob ?

Yes, we have been getting several calls a day for upwards of a week now. Upon being told that the homeowner is unavailable they immediately hang up. I said to the last caller, "please stop calling our number" to which she audibly huffed and snapped, "no I can't", before again hanging up.
