A few weeks ago I had one of the "We understand someone from your address has been involved in an accident within the past 3 years" calls, the caller claimed to be from "Citizen's Advice Bureau"!

At least if you are going to lie, do it convincingly!!!
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Does anyone have any information about a call centre using the title UK Today. They claim to be conducting market reaseach on behalf of UK companies. When challenged they claim to be based in the Phillipines but this may be false.
  • I had a call last week from a number that came up as "00000000" (so obviously a fake number), so I just answered it and repeated the phrase "Penis 8" until they hung up :rotfl:
  • I am getting a lot of calls from numbers that at a glance look believable, but on close inspection are too short by one digit.

Spoofing the system must be a standard procedure now ?
  • I recently bought a nice shiny new whistle and I use it frequently.
  • Just a quick warning to others:

I usually leave the answer machine to answer all calls.

If they are genuine and important, the caller will leave a message.

If not, the caller will hang up and all I have to do is to delete the numerous 'no message' calls rather than have to talk to them.

Tonight, the caller left message asking me to call back (in a perfect English accent) but didn't leave a number to call them on. I then dialed 1471 and made a note of the number, which happened to use the same STD code as mine. I assumed this was a local caller and then used the callback (3). Number dialed which then answered with silence. I immediately disconnected and checked on the computer to see who the number belonged to ..... to my surprise it was listed as +91 01952 478406! An Indian number!
I wonder how much a 5 second call to India is going to cost me, especially when I thought I was dialing a local number?

When is our wonderful government going to do something about this nuisance?!!!
  • Just wondering if anyone has had any calls from a company called financial solutions, foreign voice so i assume from overseas. Keep calling to speak to my husband, claim it’s to do with a complaint and office of fair trading. I refused to put my husband on the phone last friday and they said we’ll start court proceedings and told them to carry on. Called again today and i told them my husband was out!!! Seems dodgy just curious if anyone else knows of them?

Chat to them.....waste their time.....eventually they will put you down as a timewaster, which is exactly what you want. They get monitored for number of successful calls per hour or similar, so are likely to be rather cross with you :)

My Council sells details of our Electoral Roll to any buyer.

The Council has two versions of the electoral roll, one which they sell to the public and one which is kept private. You have to tell the Council that you want to be removed from the one they sell to the public. They have to comply, by law.
