Thinking I might have gone a bit far in expressing my somewhat overly old-fashioned views today and scared or bugged people (sorry, I love and respect you all!), did we get a shoe of the day?!

Oh yeah I agree with everything you say, it just sounded a bit archaic the way you worded it at first and I think it could be misconstrued by some over-zealous young things!

As for 'exploring' - did you never read teenage magazines' problem pages? They'd do everything they could to stop you having full sex, usually involving a lot of 'petting' :eek:

Nope I didn't read them I'm afraid. I found them kind of irriating for some reason, I moved straight from those girls comics with all the romantic heros with study jaws having a romantic hug with the blonde woman from the 1970s after rescuing her kitten, straight to New Woman and Cosmopolitan and things!

I think I was in primary school when I was reading them actually, I remember my mam being horrified (not that I was having sex in primary school!!) (Or even petting!) Learnt a lot from them

I didn't have my first kiss until I was 15, I was a very slow starter. It was at a Christian retreat too, so I don't think it crossed either of our minds to take it any further! Went to a Quaker all girls school too, so we were quite sheltered.

I've got to agree! My parents grew up knowing Catholic families with loads of children (and no money) because of this preaching. And how can sex outside of marriage (and is this pre-marital or extra-marital?) not be a sin when you're not allowed to protect yourself from STI's and the potential for an illegitimate child to be conceived? It makes no sense, surely if they're saying that you're not allowed 'barriers' they shouldn't be allowing sex outside of marriage?! This is why I don't like religion, it makes my head hurt!

I wasn't particularly sheltered, just shy. I was 14 when I had mine, and it was horrible to boot It's not a bad thing to be a late starter, I'm glad I was sitting on the field with my friends, who are still my friends now, rather than behind the bike sheds with some spotty oik!

I think most modern catholics will be on the pill or have their tubes tied later on or something, and I agree there is a lot of bending of the rules. But even leaving religion out of it, I despise condoms, which is enough of a reason for me not to have casual sex. They feel awful, it's impossible to think of sex as something intimate when you have this physical barrier between you.

I think exploring one anothers bodies is nonsense advice, we're advising them to get involved in full foreplay and then just stop cold, they're never going to do that! I think the current appauling teenage pregnancy statistics would show that the current physical but no emotional advice being doled out is failing modern teenagers.

Mine was on top of a hill, stars out, lovely view across Derbyshire, very romantic. But yeah, it was still a bit rubbish! I remember being bored during it and wondering how long was polite to kiss him for until I could stop!

Right, I took so long writing my reply (had OH on the phone, work aren't paying him and are asking for last months pay back! Grrrr!) that I missed your further explanations. I still don't really agree though, we're very much belt and braces and I still have a tense time of panicking when my period's due and it's a few hours late! I think the worry of getting knocked up would take the joy out of sex for me!

I'll go find a shoe of the day!
