Erm.... Just opened an account with Co-Op but they did not ask whether or not I was BR? As they didn't ask and I am not requesting credit, was this something I should have mentioned anyway ????? I have passed everything on the spot and they have accepted me.0

Hi Skylight,
Please post your query as a new thread, rather than in this sticky, so that people can answer you without making the sticky harder to read. Thanks.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Everyone,
I've asked for this sticky to be closed, so that queries can only be posted as new threads as previously requested, otherwise it'll become harder & harder for other members to find the relevant information in the thread. If there are significant changes to banking policy in the future, they can be posted in a new thread.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

I attach a link about basic bank accounts from Clydesale Bank regarding their basic bank account. Its called ReadyCash.
They will give you a Maestro card. I got the account number and sort number instantly. No credit checks.
For those in England the bank teller suggested that the Post Office will give Maestro to everyone, with no checks, although I can't confirm this personally.

Hope this helps, I am delighted about it, and it only took 15 mins to set up, although I did have to listen to the cross selling chat.
You have to actually go into the branch too, it would appear that it cannot be set up on line or via the phone.0 -
Sorry Fermi, I was unable to 'tag' this onto the thread about Bank Accounts but feel free to move it or add the info to that thread.
Since discharge I've been having a bit of a look around at bank accounts just in case I can get something else.
I have a Co-op Cashminder account and a Barclays Cash Card account. All my bills are paid from my Co-op account but as I don't have a Co-op in the town I live in which can be a bit of a pain when I want to pay cheques in.
It was suggested recently that Yorkshire Bank offer a basic bank account with a Maestro card and internet banking to discharged Bankrupts. I went to apply for an account today and have been advised that they've now changed their policy!!
So now you can only get one of their basic accounts if:
a) you hold an account with them at time of BR and they aren't a creditor
b) it's been 6 years since BR and it has now dropped off your credit file.
So off I went to Barclays, they've changed their policy regarding the Cash Card account. You can now have a Visa Connect card with the account. It is very similar to the Electron card but is accepted at a few more places (I used my daughters to book my room at the 3 pears). They also offer telephone banking on this account which obviously isn't as good as Internet banking but is better than nothing.

I'm still not convinced yet that undischarged bankrupts will be able to get that.
Would be nice to be wrong though.
Can anyone who applies for this account report back any negative or positive results please.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
