As soon as I went bankrupt, I went straight to Lloyds TSB and opened a normal account which came with a cheque book and debit card included. I told them of my circumstances, and I think, because I had no really bad marks on my credit refs, they let me open one. I'd only stopped paying my creditors to get my BR fee together, but I had been turned down previously for a couple of things so I don't think my credit report was glowing after paying credit cards late etc.

So if you circumstances are like mine, get off to a bank asap after you go BR.

Unfortunatly since then things have got a lot tighter and the only 2 banks who offer an account now are Co-op and Barclays.

I got a current account from Lloyds TSB which technically wasn't available to undischarged bankrupts at the time. It'd be daft of them to give a cheque book to someone who has just gone bankrupt, but they did. Could it have been because of the speed in which I opened the account after going bankrupt, not allowing the credit ref agencies (or whoever) time to update?
