oh lordy, it seems everything i go to do has problems! i didnt know about walkers causing feet problems. he already sits in a jumperoo thingy and his feet don't sit flat when he's in that. this childrearing caper is a minefield of dos and donts and it seems everything i do is wrong sometimes. i know what you're all saying about letting them have their freedom to roam about but Oz is not crawling yet and only sits up for a while, he gets bored on the ground, bored in his ring, bored bored bored. he wants to get going and cant and unless i sit on the floor with him all day long and let him stand up i dont know what else to do to amuse him. am also thinking about when he is motoring and crawling around and our house is going to be a disaster cos its completely tiled from one end to the other (underfloor heating) and he's prob gonna knock himself out if he hits the deck. the kitchen is super modern, all corners and edges and the living room has all my OH's sound equipment for movies, which by the way is sitting on a glass unit with sharp edges. oh dear lord what were we thinking. am feeling a bit useless today.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

Don't worry nad there's no one size fits all in childcare - but hey welcome to the club lol we all made to feel like that at some point - usually by child free though :rotfl:
sorry if we've made you feel bad.
on another note have you thought of a playmat for entertainment? We had this and lo loved it...

however it's an awkward age yr lo is at but it will be only a few more weeks/may be a mth before he starts crawling if he is average for his age so not long now....soon you'll be chasing him around the room trying to stop him climbing/touching something he shou;ldn't....:T .MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0 -
Oh nadnad, chin up
I think the stage just before crawling and cruising is the most frustrating time - they're getting bored, and in all likelihood you are too. But please don't doubt yourself, all any of us are trying to do with our kids is our best and I don't doubt that you're the best mummy he could have
We have a GLASS tv unit (erm good job me!) a sharp-cornered coffee table, wooden flooring throughout, and DS is fine! You can get soft corner things to put on anything sharp, we have some that are sort of rubbery, he will be fine, don't worry. We survived the 80s didn't we?!
I guess he is getting big now but can you put him in a sling for a bit while you move about the house so he can get a good view of what you're doing? Mind you I got sick of carrying Elliot well before he was 6 months so maybe not practical.
Or put him in his highchair with different things to play with, kitchen stuff like bowls and wooden spoons... or a book to look at. We spent a lot of time in the garden as this stage, guess it's a bit cold for that!
Top tip - a few minutes of CBeebies won't do any harm(usually a tele snob but the effect it has on babies is worth it!!!)
Please don't feel useless x x x0 -
Nadnad-elliots already bored at 11 weeks old....i feel frustrated myself not being able to keep him entertained all the time. not much i can do right now though, hes too little!Mommy to Elliot (5) and Lewis (born xmas eve 11!)0

Nad don't worry, are you sure he's bored? I don't remember Chris getting bored but maybe he was just easily pleased!
I used to move him around from playing with me, sitting in bouncy chair (that had music and bubble things in front of him) play mat/gym a bit of tele, a walk when I could, sitting watching me when cooking. I can't think of anything else.
Are you going to any groups? I went to about 3 a week when he was little all run through surestart they're great if you have one local. as ong as he's not in the bouncy thing for ages I'm sure it'll do no harm0 -
and on the subject of sharp corners and hard floors, they soon learn to be careful with hard floors, and I'm afraid you like everyone else will soon have to say goodbye to stylish furniture and hello stylish, drawn on, sticky, furniture with corner bumps and locks stuck on them :rotfl: I'm currently hating baby proofing as the draw locks have made me trap my finger twice today coz I'm tired so not thinking!0

Any tips JS did you have any regrets forking out all that extra money?
No regrets at all. Well, obviously I'd have preferred to not to have to spend £400 and drive on the M62 to get him there...;) (Seriously I am not happy on motorways).
However, everyone does what they feel is best for their child - for me that meant single vaccines. DS wasn't well for weeks after some of the vaccines, which in some respects reassured me that at least he was only recovering from one vaccine at a time. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
Speaking of baby-proofing, does anyone else love going to friends houses where there are no children (without taking yours of course!)?
Where they can drink out of glasses and leave them anywhere they please and there's not one bit of shiny red/yellow/green/blue plastic to be seenA place where hairbrushes don't go missing for a week  and books and magazines can be left on the sofa without fear of destruction, and their mobile phones are shiny with no dribble on them

ooh don't talk to me about dribbled on mobiles! I'd had my brand spanking top of the range mobile for a whole month before Chris managed to soak it in dribble rendering it completely useless - couldn't even get it repaired  ho hum only 5 months until contract is up and I can have a new one, that will probably be broken after bump arrives!0

thanks everyone.
tsstss he's been on a playmat since he was born and has recently got very bored of it very quickly. he's also got a bouncy chair he used to love but that bores him too, and also he sits up in it now so thats not safe. we've been given a door bouncer which keeps him amused for about 10 minutes. his jumperoo something similar. he's got one of those inflatable hoop things so he can sit in that by himself and sometimes he'll amuse himself for maybe 20 minutes. tried him in his high chair for a while and after about 10 minutes he was squealing looking out. my friends babies sit and play for ages and ages but Oz never has, he's always looking for something new. Probably a bit like his mum, i get bored in about 5 minutes, and my dad's the same, can't wait to get doing something, then when i'm doing it i'm bored already.
i don't go to any groups with him there are very few about where i live, although there is one on a wednesday morning maybe i could try, what do you do at mother and baby groups? i would feel a little odd going by myself cos i wouldnt know anyone.
i was intending to take him swimming every week, since we first went about 4 weeks ago but he's had this chesty cough and i didnt want to bring him with that.
i take him for a walk every day, we live in the country so thats nice for both of us.
everyone who sees him can't get over how he's raring to go, he's been like it from day 1, he's never ever been a sleepy baby, and even the HV and GP said how alert he was when he was tiny was amazing.
oh well, these things are sent to try us! this is just an awkward stage i guess and it'll pass.
he's watching mickey mouse clubhouse at the minute. tv has its place, and its usually now between 5 and 6pm when he gets grouchy and i'm impatiently waiting for OH to come home!DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY
