no i know that breast milk doesnt suddenly become deficient, but i was told (by HV and GP) that his iron stores that have kept him going from birth will be depleted now and he wont get enough from breast milk or the small amounts of food he eats, i was just worried because iron supports the immune system and he's been sick twice now in the last wee while. and also since he's been sick this time - (since last friday), he hasn't eaten anything really, just a couple of mouthfuls here and there.

i have to say though i did think it strange that breast milk doesnt provide enough, what happened to it being the perfect food?!

  • nadnad maybe this link can help you decide what to do?

It took Elliot a fair while to get used to solids, he didn't eat much for a good few months really....

thanks daphne. i'll have a think on it.

oz was eating really well until he got sick, just as well i am feeding him myself still. oh well am sure once he's over it he'll be munching away again! he's crying now and OH trying to get him back to sleep.

he's not very good at sleeping and is generally up 4 or 5 times a night, but this week whilst he wasnt well i've took him into bed with me and he's slept all night. so i'm wondering why he wakes up in his cot - maybe he's not cosy enough?

My HV recommended Abidec multi vit drops I looked at lots of diff ones and they seemed the best to me although they contain peanut oil and soya so not rec if bubs has allergies (I didn't b/f Chris , but I have to agree i don't think I would have bothered it I was) I also give him Asda infant fish oil. it comes in capsules that you cut the top off and then squirt it into milk/breakfast

on the sleep subject, he may be a bit cold or need something to snuggle. one tip i have tho is squirt at bit of your perfume (assuming you wear it all the time like moi) from a bit of a height on to his bedding I always do this when I put clean sheets on chris' bed and if I forget he wakes up for a cuddle at least 3 times
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

  • He probably just likes being so close to his mummy :) Elliot sleeps better with me though I am trying to increase the amount of time he's in his cot, and decrease the time with me... he fidgets and kicks and rolls  but wakes less and never cries - god I am tired though.

thanks sami bee, those are the vitamins i saw and why i was prompted to ask for recommendations, because i have a peanut allergy i can't give it to oz. (also thought it very strange thing to put in vitamins for kids).

i don't wear perfume anymore, i stopped because i was breast feeding, and didnt want to annoy him with it.

yeah daphne i think you're right he does like being close to me but unfortunately though he sleeps better, i barely sleep at all every movement he makes and i'm jumping. we kept him in his cot last night and when he woke he did feel cold, not just his hands but right up his arms too, so am thinking bout putting a pj top on over his sleepsuit.

    Hi All.

First time poster on this thread. Sounds like a lovely place.
I needed some advice on buying a high-chair. I've left it quite late, and LO is already 8 months. So far he's been sitting with us at the table in his pram. Long story cut short is we're moving country soon and that's why we havent bought it. But having looked at the local shops where we're moving, there's not much choice etc so I want to buy one to take with me.

Any advice and money-saving tips would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

p.s could do with some advice on finger foods too. Am living with very over-cautious inlaws at the moment (aargh - so have had to delay on the finger foods too)

Ikea :D You can hose it when when necessary, the legs come off for transport, and i can't imagine it getting damaged in the move. It's only £10, so I'd suggest getting the matching tray too - I think that's £3.

Hi fmmh, and welcome :) I think we discussed highchairs a while ago (might have been the previous thread) so I don't know if doing a search might help?

Personally, being able to clean it well is the main priority for me. We have a Mothercare padded sort of chair - a bit like this one but without the basket - (from DS1) and TBH it's a pain in the neck to clean with all the nooks and crannies. If I had to buy another one, and hindsight is a great thing and all that, I'd go for your most basic Ikea one, or one of those wooden things.

Your LO is not a tiny baby anyway, so doesn't need that much padding and support in his chair, so you've got plenty of choice. :)

As for the finger foods - just go for it and try to ignore the in-laws. I was probably a bit cautious with my first too, but DS2 has been munching on toast from as soon as he could hold it. :D

Edit: great minds eh Js OH! :D We should get paid by Ikea for promoting their stuff! :rotfl:
