  • Posted this over on travel but thought that there may be more people from Yorkshire with babies over here lol

We are going near Pickering and are looking for ideas of what to do as i cant seem to find much online. Although its our honeymoon its all about our beautiful baby girl :D i looked into Flamingo Land (for the animals) and Alton Tours (this one was more out of desperation!!) but they are both closed.

There is a place called Eureka with a couple of baby focused things in Halifax but is it worth a 86 mile trip there, and the same back?

It doesnt have to be a 'proper' day out, a park with ducks or a quiet play area with swings would be great, our baby is 10 months old.

I've been to Eureka, but it's not really baby orientated IMO. It's more a hands on science museum for older children. I think it's a long way to travel for something that she'll not get a lot out of.

First thoughts when you mentioned Pickering is the North York Moors Railway http://www.nymr.co.uk/ Even if you're not into steam trains, it's a beautiful scenic run. If you're going in December, they run Santa Specials. One of the carriages has a Santa's grotto, and you go down and get a present. I can remember going on those when I was little and I loved it.

I do get a little excited about steam trains though, and go out to take pictures of them. Currently counting down the days to the 18th November as the Tornado is scheduled to come up and down the East Coast Main line, so I'll be out to watch her pass through :o
Here I go again on my own....
  • Agree with Eureka, the baby things there seemed to be more for if you were visiting with older children and its way too far for just a couple of things.

I didnt realise Scarbourgh had anything there (was sugested to me) anyway looked it up and there is a few small animal farms and a mini steam train and the big steam train is well worth checking out, thanks Becles!

Maybe asking about feeding ducks and play areas once we get there would be an idea as im sure there are plenty, they are just hard to find online.

Talking of play areas, i think i may take Natasha to the swings today and see how she likes it, we have a lovely quiet one with everything not too far away....

  • Does your local park have a baby swing? Ours only has two "big people" swings. If so, you might have to take me next time I'm up. DD was on a swing at around 6 months but Tom still hasn't been on one yet and I'm sure he'd love it.
  • The swings just along from the house have no swings, only the frames but thats this horrible place for you

There are a couple of lovely ones a few miles away, the one i was thinking of is on the back roads into Durham although i know you dont go that way. It has baby swings, a roundabout, those springy jumpy things in the ground and i think a seesaw, it always looks lovely and quiet and the people there look like 'nice clean people' lol

We actually have a slide and swing in the garden, she loves the swing but hasnt really been on it since it went outside as our garden is a complete mess but it was way to big to keep in the dining room (i did for about 3 weeks)

We could always take them together one day insead of just sitting gossiping :rotfl:

  • Oh forgot to say Choc, my mam keeps saying she cant wait to see Tom, yes she called him Tom!, although i guess even if she keeps calling him Thomas its better than my uncle who calls Natasha 'Gracie' as he seems to think Natasha is a silly name and he cant say it properly

I'll never complain again! Wow you guys have some great stories. I let Joseph dictate nap and sleep times, there's some routine but never rigid. I was put off by the word 'routine' when friends of ours 'had' to be home by 6.30pm ever since their boy was born. I preferred to let Joseph get used to being out and about and able to fit in to any outings. Not that we have any sort of life , but occasionally it's nice for him to be awake when we're visiting grandparents.

I was just worried that he may stop napping soon, but it seems we have ages yet. Phew. :T

    I think I'm you're friend! :rotfl:

  • Just wanted to pop in and say hello to some familiar names from the pregnancy club last year! I've not been on mse much since last year (never get much of a chance to sit down, with 3 lol!) but finally got on the computer today for more of a visit (fought off my 7yr old DS!) and found this thread :T

Hope everyone's little ones are fine and crawling/walking around and getting into everything xx

Hi can I just ask what age you stop your lo have a morning nap? I have a 16 month old (and a 3 year old but cant remember that far back!) he has been a rountine since a few weeks old, up at 6.30-7am morning nap 9am-10.00 than afternoon nap 1pm-3pm then bed at 7pm. He goes down great at night time but can be overtired as he wont settle for his afternoon nap anymore. I have cut the morning nap to 3/4 of an hour, but he still screams and carries on at 1pm. I have tried to let him go without the morning nap but he is too cranky by 12. I tried to look over the last few pages but couldnt see a similar question, I am at my wits end as he has been in his cot since 1pm and is still carrying on (not crying thta whole time) i dont know what else to try, other than stopping the morning nap and hope it will work out in a few days.....have to go hes screaming again. tia
