Oh feelie - we used infracol, as Izzy was the same - waking up crying because she needed to fart :( MW said it helps to get all the bubbles together into one big bubble so it is easier to get it out?

We stopped using it probably about 6 weeks ago. I think a combination of Izzy's digestive system improving, and me being better at burping her! I've pretty much given up on the rubbing/patting back methods - I've found bouncing her on my knee or playing row-row-row to be far more effective. If it is a stubborn burp I turn her upside down ever so often too! It's a good thing she isn't a sicky baby really ;)

Rubbing tummy/bicycle legs help for when she needs a fart, as does picking her up so that she is facing away from me, and I am holding her with my arm across her middle, so most of her weight is being supported by her tummy iyswim. If that doesn't work I kind of balance her on my arm like that, and pat her back/bum with the other hand. It sounds really mean when I write it like that!

My dog is not well. He had the runs yesterday and he's a long haired border collie so it all hangs in the hair round his back end and tail. I had to shampoo his back end twice yesterday.

Got up this morning and there was poo all over the landing, so I've had to clean that up and shampoo the carpet and his back end again.

Are you still looking forward to getting a dog Sami? :rotfl:

He's not normally ill. I'll starve him for 24 hours and give him scrambled eggs or something tomorrow and he'll be fine. He's normally pretty good and he's lovely with Charlotte and the boys. I miss him so much when we go on holiday.
:rotfl:Don't worry I don't 'do' dogs living in the house so a case of the runs just means the hose comes out for me ;) I grew up breeding English Springer Spaniels, the amount of runny worm poops and dog vomit I encountered certainly helped to prepare me for a baby :p

  • AF - hope you managed to get your LO down without cuddling! Although TBH I think if I have to spend the next few years giving my son a cuddle for 20 minutes every night then it won't be such a hardship will it

So glad to see you on here for a change, support is the name of the game ;)

We have BIL and SIL over to watch the match so I am making the most of Benjamin being amused by someone else for a change :D

Mel - really pleased that one of the boys was playing with Kai - you must be chuffed!

Thanks for the advice, After a lot of moaning this afternoon I dug the baby rice out and my little man wolfed it down! He had 4 teaspoons mix worth of it, I was quite impressed how he managed to polish it off! He was nearly biting my hand of for it lol. I think I will just trust my instincts. I say he's so ready. Thanks for the advice!

    Amber
Sounds like he was ready then! I'd say any time after 17 weeks is fine - some babies are ready at 4 months, some at 5 and some at 6. :) It's people who start weaning at 2 months that I don't agree with

Welcome to the thread BTW :)

We've abandoned Eurovision as 1) we're both sober and it's not as funny, 2) Terry Wogan's not taking the p1ss out of all of the entrants so it's not as funny.
Actually, Graham Norton was just as funny, I thought! A great replacement :T

But you're right, it probably isn't quite as good without a few drinks :rotfl:

I think I've been making a rod for my own back gradually, and I've just realised; the last couple months, Elijah's happiest place has been riding my shoulders clinging to my hair, which has been cute and amusing.

However, he is getting more and more fixated with my hair (at the same time as he is getting stronger and heavier), and he is now at the stage that ANY time he is within reach or almost within reach of it, he makes a heroic lunge for it and absolutely locks his grip on. This is almost always a bit uncomfortable, sometimes very, and can be quite hard to break!
It can even break bedtime routine sometimes, when I'm holding him on my chest/shoulder heading for the cot and he notices my hair is near him... etc!

Anyone else go through this? It's just a phase... right? :p My scalp hurts!

angelfairy I had to remove my LO cot mobile (cruel mother) as she just wouldn't sleep if it was up I ended up selling it. I was very wary of putting toys in her bed to incase she was more interested in playing with them than sleeping but she has her faves she grabs hold of before falling asleep.

Becles I hope woofles feels better soon, I hate it when our pooch is ill, coz it's generally me who cleans it up!!

Amber I'm glad he enjoyed his first taste of real food (if you can call baby rice that:rotfl:)

AF - we swaddled Imogen from day 1 (it's what the nurses did on the mat ward after I had a section). She got into a bedtime routine pretty easily from 6 weeks but all of a sudden at around 12/14 weeks she was waking every 30-45 mins. When we went up we discovered she'd broken out of her swaddling and was bashing her arms on the side of the moses basket. We persevered for a few days, but it meant I had to wake OH in the night for him to swaddle her as I couldn't do it tight enough and she'd have escaped in 10mins. It was also the catalyst for putting her in her own room as we then stopped swaddling her. Once in the middle of the cot she could 'windmill' her arms and not bash them on anything so she didn't wake up.

I guess what I'm saying is that this will be a pretty short phase, so if you can manage swaddling with just sheets (use cot ones in half instead of moses basket ones if you need bigger) then that might be easiest on your finances. On the other hand, Jo Jo Maman Bebe do some adorable swaddling blankets. It's your call.

Amber - glad your experiment went well. Sometimes it's difficult to relax and trust yourself as a mother (believe me, it only gets a bit easier as they grow, not much). Glad you did what you felt was right and it's working. We weaned Imogen bang on 17 weeks and she grabbed the spoon the very first time she had anything to make me shovel it in faster! But then she'd been on 45oz of hungry baby milk a day for the preceeding 6 weeks and STILL seemed hungry.

Bruno - of course it's just a phase. That's my mantra, "It's just a phase,". You could try some good distraction, or put him down any time he grabs for it. He'll soon get the message.

We had a new addition to my original mum & baby club families on Friday. Most of us are expecting/have had #2. I'm a bit freaked because the arrival of Jessica means it's me next - aaarrgghh!

Right, I'm meant to be looking at the thrifty recipes board to get some inspiration for cheap meals. Better get to it!

hi ladies well my poor wee doggy has gone:( we had an amazing 50 emails and phonecalls for her and we managed to get it doen to 2 couples. One couple couldnt wait to get here and they had their 2 westies with them, they all got on great and as sson as they saw Skye they fell in love. The woman even got upset when i cried. they are going to keep in touch and have already mailed pics of her having fun with the other pups. I know she is with amazing people but my heart is broken. Luckily the kids arent too bad but i tried to involve them with the rehoming as much as poss.

So hopefully this time next month OH will have a job and we will be packing up on our new adventure. it just seems so hard to look into a brighter future right now
:( sorry for the depressing post but i dont want kids to see how sad i am.
