My GP tried to discourage me from BF as its too demanding on mothers!! :mad:One hint of baby weight dropping on percentile chart she would recommend FF. My LO dropped loads on percentile chart which is I think not too uncommon for a BB baby so she suggested I didn't have enough milk and wanted us to go back every week for weighing. I didn't go back to see her again!!

The Health Visitor the other day told me that very few women manage to exclusively express, and that I shouldn't be too hard on myself - I was likely to give up so I shouldn't feel bad about it!

I'd have rather had a bit more reassurance and encouragement, and not so negative!

Its not suprsising people struggle when people aren't supportive.

Perhaps positive, I don't know, but Toby now lunges at the back of my hand whenever I put my hand near him! He'll have a few sucks on the back of my hand if I let him. Up till now he hasn't really shown any interest in sucking anything but the bottle, so fingers crossed he'll decide he wants to breast feed soon!

I've managed four weeks of expressing. Next goal is to get to 6 weeks.

Hoping to go for coffee with the NCT ladies tomorrow. One of them had a bad bout of baby blues for the first week, so would be nice to see her and have a good chat.

Oh, and another thing I'm happy about. Toby is 4 weeks old, and I am now 7lb lighter than when I got pregnant! Not as impressive as it sounds, as I'm a bit (very!) on the large side, but its nice to not be so huge. 2 and a half stone gone in 4 weeks, most of it was fluid, I can't believe how small my hands and feet are now.

Feelie - it's great you're finding things to be positive about and setting realistic goals. Managing another two weeks of expressing seems loads more do-able than another X months.

Caz - welcome back. Wondered where you'd been!

Em - M&P have one of their slings on offer at the moment reduced to £39 from about £50. I went to see it in the shop and the girl said that the only difference between the one on offer and the one permanently at £40 is the fabric. It had really good back support, including a different bit which goes round your waist and seemed really supportive. Most of the others I've seen only have straps which cross over your shoulders and upper back, rather than lower.

Susan - in my area they now do your first scan at 10 weeks because it's lots more accurate for dating than either a 12wk or 20 wk scan. They no longer alter your date if the 20wk scan shows anything different.

Imogen's been at nursery today (her one day a week) and I don't think she got any sleep. Well, that's the impression we got from her manic running about at the shops this afternoon. She's always the same when she's over tired. We've removed the chair from her room and she appears to have settled quite well tonight, so hopefully she'll have a good night's sleep - and so will we. Thinking of getting a blackout blind for her room though because I closed her curtains (with blackout lining) and the door tonight and could still read her story without a light on at 7.30pm.

Good on you Feelie. You are doing really well. What a lucky baby he is :) You will get support from us, even if the NHS aren't so hot on it ;)

Emm - I leave Izzy in her car seat when she is sleeping too sometimes. (Although she tends to get woken up by the lift doors opening/closing on the way up stairs.) Letting your baby have a good sleep isn't being a bad mum at all. I do find that if she is in a really deep sleep I can take her out of the car seat and bring her in without her waking up very much (if she does wake up she will normally go to sleep again when I put her down after just a bit of shhhing) She has to be properly asleep for that to work though.

Feely, the suckling is a great sign, try and get as much skin to skin as you can hun, see if you can encourage him in the right direction... But no pressure, it will take time to learn any new skill. And you are doing so fantastically well with the expressing, as long as you are making the milk there's no reason you can't continue to express it!!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Emm - forgot to say, I don't think you're a bad mummy for leaving babe asleep in the car seat. I used to be able to get the car seat out with sleeping baby in and just put her on the floor somewhere. And I often left her outside in her pram, I just pushed it round the back and in front of the french doors so I could see her. If you'd left her asleep in the car in the car park I'd be worried, but not outside the house.

I was thinking this morning that we might need one of those as Tom has started to wake and want to be up at 5am. I can manage six, but five just seems far too early!

quick question - when they bring in the breast fed baby growth charts - they arent using them for all babies are they? cos using them for formlua fed babies is surely as stupid as using ff chart for bf babies?
Since breastfeeding is the biological norm, I believe it's considered that all babies should be compared by that standard as it is what they are "supposed" to be like.

Thanks, I realise the 20 week scan can't be used for dating purposes but I don't believe in it anyway.

I can't remember where we got our blackout blind from. Just googled and compared prices I think. I managed to find a custom one for about £30.
