I like our bedtime routine - its set by Toby, not me. From about Day 7, he decided that he likes to sleep at night. No matter what I do during the day, it hits 9pm and he wants a feed. While I'm washing up the pump and bottles, he falls asleep in his basket. Take him up to bed, where he'll sleep (noisily!) till 1am. Another feed and he sends himself back to sleep, then up again at about 6am for another feed. Sometimes he'll go back to bed, but other days he'll decide its time to get up. During the day he'll have little naps, but no solid sleep like he does at night. Very strange that he decided his own routine so early, and I'm glad its a good one!

Hi all...being a slummy mummy at the mo and letting Lo watch TV while I post. Seem to be really stretched for time at the mo so will prob be a bit jumbled but just wanted to jot down a few ramblings lol.

MFD we used a massage as part of our son's bedtime routine when he was little (ie around 2 mths) as he had terrible colic and it really seemed to help but theres no reason why you couldn't use this sort of activity to "wind down" lo before bedtime instead of a bath. We are firmly in the bath story etc bed routine now but only because lo is of the exploding nappy variety and definately needs it :rotfl:.

Also good is just do a top and tail but work in a few games/songs etc - I try and make sure we work in good quality interaction around bedtime as I have an older boy too so find LO doesn't always get my undivided attention in the day so I think if I make a special effort every night then I know it gets done so to speak.

We do the bedtime routine at 6- 6.30 most days (although we do have to do late visits sometimes which puts us back) and that is my fav bed time in terms of how lo behaves the next day.

3onitsway :rotfl::rotfl:....children are soo funny sometimes....my bigger boy is like this about clothes ...it certainly takes some tolerance from me I can tell you. He tells my ex (his dad) I don't buy him any clothes as he decides he doesn't like things after a few wears sometimes....consequently I'm getting accused of neglecting him- meanwhile there are too many clothes to fit in his cupboard as dad keeps buying him more!

Thanks to whoever posted the link to emma-jane btw - I emailed too and have had an email back....I'm a very big cup size though (H:eek:) as I'm still breastfeeding so I certainly fit the bill in that department.

Anyway to whoever was asking about the loola earlier...I have had one which I used from 6 mths (I used an old fashioned silver cross at birth) although it can be used from birth. It's very heavy (which means you can load it with shopping bags :j without to much worry) but I love the rear facing aspect so am still using it at 18mths facing me. I keep thinking about getting a buggy for town as itis a tad wide but lo is so comfy in it I forgive it for its faults ...and put up with it for him!

  • AM - I'm not following any book...I refuse to read any because I've seen too many of my friends being tied down by the 'rules' for looking after their kids (LOL - the irony!!). That's probably why I am on here asking daft questions all the time ;)

tsstss7 - I do a bit of massage on Benjamin as part of getting him ready for bed...maybe I can skip the bath bit and just start there...

nad - sometimes I can just see and I I know I am missing the point when he is tired and I know I have got a battle on my hands...I think that then half of the battle is with me because he can sense I am tense.

Feelie - sounds like Toby is a fab little sleeper! Well done you two!

3 - I am glad it is not just me who has a baby constantly swinging from a boobie!

em - hope you don't have the injections + 1 day that I had yesterday!!

Now I want to go to Booby Club and my little angel has been asleep for 2 1/2 hours

Erin has had a good routine also set by herself she feeds from 8.30/9pm until around 10 then she sleeps through until 6.30/7 this is great as i get a good sleep and she is fed before the rest start getting up for school! she has little naps but a 2 hour sleep in the afternoon when charlie also goes down. she seems to have slotted into life quite easily

ok quick tax credits question, my sister had a baby 4 weeks after erin, she applied for tax credits and when phoning this week to ask what was going on with them they have told her she will have money from today onwards but they will not backdate the money from birth as she did not put a covering letter??? has anyone else had this? as mine was all backdated?

Toby sleeps well, its just a shame that he mumbles and chats in his sleep! He is making a noise constantly, even when being totally asleep. I'm starting to get used to it. On the plus side, I never worry about him not breathing - I only have to wait 2 minutes and I'll hear some sort of gurgle, groan, moan, mumble or something. I didn't know babies could make so much noise!

MFD - I only bath Kai 2-3 times a week and I dislike routines as I have seen friends who have tried sticking to routines and are then in tears and distressed when things don't go according to the routine. I definitely think it is best to follow your instincts, if you think baby is tired skip most of the bedtime stuff...it is probably more important to just concentrate on being relaxed whilst feeding, and making sure he gets enough food to last him through:)

tsstss7 - It was me asking about the loola....I decided against it as there wasn't much difference in weight from my current pushchair; although I love the rear facing aspect of it. I bought the Chicco for me, which is only 6.5kgs so half the weight of mine and also does rear facing:D

Kai also has a case of the 'jabs' blues! He's not his usual happy self he had them yesterday.....

... Anyway - the point of my ramble is to ask what you do if you think baby is too tired at the point of starting to get them ready for bed...last night I knew he was at the point of too tired when I started getting his bath ready but I wanted to keep the routine going, would I have been better just feeding and settling him straight away?

I know every baby is different but does anybody have any tips?
I would say if you see ur boy getting tired 'early' then move routine forward on that day but if you don't realise (after 2yrs I still miss the golden time often :p)
I just do watever it takes to get them in bed:rotfl:
I have let Chris go to bed without any tea because he was clearly too tired (he almost did the you've been framed fall into the bowl thing!) I knew he would probably wake up at about 5am or in the middle of the night but I felt it was better than to prolong the agony. At his age now he will wake up occasionally and let me change his nappy and have a glass of choccy milk and go straight back to bed so I just go with the flow

sorry rambled a bit there! hope it makes some sense!

Tests in pregnancy - re 12 week scan this is how I found out I had miscarried before Oz, so I would never miss that. But then I go private so get a scan every 3 or 4 weeks - I'm the complete opposite of Susan and Sami! I needed the reassurance of scans after my miscarriage, and I'll do the same the next time.

Re inductions - i think most countries count pregnancy at term at 41 weeks, so when they induce in the UK at 40 + 10 I think thats quite early and probably why there are SO many inductions.
i had the scans :) (in fact during this preg I've had 5! :o) I had bleeding and so had 6wk scan, then 12wk, 20 wk and 2 private ones 33 & 34 wks - bubba was hiding on 1st private one so I got a 2nd one for free:D
For me I like seeing my bubs in there so wouldn't pass up on any scans but do pass on tests esp ones that aren't conclusive - I saw my friend go through 20 weeks of hell waiting to see if her 'high risk of downs' baby arrived with downs, it was a horrible thing fer her to go through and it turned out that her LO was clear.

Susan - thanks for that link! I was aware of parts but not all of that :)

FYI: I'm completely convinced that Chris was 14 days late even though my scan date put him 3 days early which is partly why I'm comfortable with going over dates

Feelie - Chris stayed at my parents last weekend and got in bed with my sister at 3am - she said it was the worst sleep she's ever had (even worse that at a festival in a tent :p) because he doesn't shut up :rotfl:he does natter away all night, I think he was reliving the days events on monday night because everytime I checked on him he was talking about his car and that day his friend had come over and there was a bit of tension over taking turns in the toy car :D
