I read somewhere that head circumference is a better guide of whether a baby is thriving than its weight so who knows? and really, who cares how they perform against a chart, all babies are unique, how can they measure that on a chart?

Sami thanks for link to bra testing, have emailed them, would be fantastic to get picked cos I dread to think how much I have spent on nursing bras so far, do you thing 36G will count as big enough?

MFD, you might find his weight gain slows down in a couple of months, if you look at the link I gave feely, there's a link to bmi guides which would take into account a babies all over growth rather than just weight gain... Length is a far better judge of health... If a baby isn't growing in length then it is more of a sign of a problem than not gaining the right amount of weight...

    Hello ladies

Good luck with the new pram, Mel! Hope you went thru Quidco ;). I have just bought that cheap one from Asda to take on hols.

Hope Seth is fast asleep now, emlou x

Needles are dreadful, aren't they MFD? I never look and the nurse takes him and walks around snuggling Jamie when its all over (as I compose myself! :o).

    How are you, Feely?

And our news is that Jamie cut his first tooth last night! :j. Its the bottom right one and that obviously explains all the finger munching and dribbling!

Oh, I forgot to actually say, Toby is now 8lb 9.5oz. He was 7lb 7oz at birth, and lost 10% of his body weight in the first few days, before I changed to expressing. In 4 days it will be a month. A month of expressing every 3 hours, all day and night!

Lady from the mental health team is coming at 3pm to discuss what to do with me. And I'm home - managed the first night okay.

  • MM - I emailed them too and I am a 36 E / F. I bought some miriam stoppard nursing bras last week - they are the best I have found because they have some material inside rather than the silly band that makes me feel naked every time I feed.... I bought 36 E because I already have one from there in that size - 2 of them are fine but I am popping over the top of the one I put on this morning

I know I should have tried them on...but it doesn't seem very hygenic with nursing bras  I certainly wouldn't have bought one that looked like it had been tried on by someone else :o

Krystal - he is growing more than a centimetre a week lol! I don't think he is fat at all - 91st for height and head and 75th for weight.

Feely, You're doing a fantastic job hun, well done! And I hope the mental health team don't let you down today!!!

MFD, I wouldn't worry about centiles... That was one of the reasons the new charts were developed... Too many people were obsessed with keeping babies on the average line than actually assessing the baby as a whole (as well as family genetics)

MFD yes I know what you mean about the miriam stoppard ones, I had some but they were the wrong size so sold them on ebay last week, I have a hot milk bra which is the same 'peephole' design but I can't afford to buy another 3 or 4 of those so am currently buying every 36g which comes up on ebay, will sell them on if they don't suit but I won a miriam stoppard one yesterday for £3 and won a freya? too so I might now have enough to have a couple in the wash rather than trying to wash one, wear one!

Am interested in charts because he doesn't have an off button. He will eat ill he is sick then carry on eating! He also doesn't like me stopping his feed when he is chocking on the milk he has sucked out faster than he can swallow. Hungry baby!
Alice used to do that too - she would feed, overflow a bit, carry on feeding and then carry on overflowing. I made a rule that if she'd fed for over 50 minutes in one session and was doing that then I stopped the feed as I figured she was full but just enjoyed eating (a bit like Roman feasts where they had sick rooms so they could make room for more food).

Does anyone know where I can find a growth chart for breastfed babies? I can't find a detailled one with weeks on it. Want to check how Toby is doing.

I have one, I asked the HV for it today. I cd look up his weight on my chart if u like. But sounds as if he's doing great. As others say dont worry too much about weight. My LO was 15lb at 6months which is a bit small on the chart but he's healthyxx

Something is up with Elijah :( he was teethy for a couple days Friday Sat or so, didn't get his naps on Sat, then was restless Sat night, difficult Sunday, and REALLY restless Sunday night, up screaming a few times. Then today he's been off his food (solid - still keen on booby...), fragile and sensitive and just wanting to cling. This afternoon OH took his temp, it was 104!! (rectal ), gave him Calpol and infant Nurofen at once, he seemed a bit better, when I got home from work it was only 101 (and rectal is usually a bit warm, like 100, anyway?).

However he's only been in bed for an hour and is already waking up screaming and not wanting to settle :( at some stage we're going to have to panic and take him to doctor, hopefully he can cope through the night but I'm beginning to doubt it :(
