Howdy all. Thought I'd update you as you were all so lovely when I was struggling earlier. Things are still incredibly hard, so went to spend the weekend with my Mum. Got some sleep, cried all weekend and then really panicked about coming home. Decided it was sensible to come back today so I could go to Pyschiatrist appointment. Phone just rang and appointment is cancelled, so I've booked an emergency appointment with the GP. Not sure he will be willing to help, with me being under a Pysch, he might just refuse. I'm planning on going back to Mums tonight, can't really cope alone. If GP can't/won't prescribe anything, not sure what I'll do. Pysch can't rearrange till next week at least. CPN is off sick. Mental Health team pretty much deserted me :-/

:mad: @ the NHS for not being there for you!
Staying with ur Mum sounds good, my poor OH, much as I love him and he tries when I'm stressed/ill/panicked all I want is my Mummy:o
Do you have any contact numbers for any of the mental health team near ur mum's maybe they could help??
Big hugs to you honey xx

I found I was offered the most support when pregnant/given birth. Im sure the GP will give you something if thats what you want and you explain everything to him. Can your mum go with you to the appointment? if so maybe she could speak/stand up for you if you find it difficult.

HV phoned this morning, asking to visit tomorrow. I explained that I wasn't coping home alone, and I was going to stay with my Mum for a week. She wished me a nice time and said she'd phone when I got back! :o

Midwife is due to visit this morning, so will see what she says about things.

Mum has been brilliant, she did a couple of night feeds so I could sleep, told me how well I'm doing, gave lots of reassurance and a few hugs (very rare from my Mum!). I feel bad for being so 'demanding', but the thought of being home just terrifies me. I'm counting down the minutes till I can go back.

poor you. is there anything like Homestart where you are? its an organisation with volunteers to go to peoples homes to help out for a couple of hours - its for all sorts of people, but i think a first time mum in your situation would def qualify.

i cant believe you're psych cancelled. I would tell your midwife everything and make sure she understands exactly how you are feeling - maybe she can do something.

lean on your mum as much as you need too - she wont mind, in fact im sure shes glad to help.

Don't feel bad about it, I was like you in a way. I used to think i'm grown up and can look after myself, but when i had elliot i felt quite lost and panicked a lot. I gave in (kept saying i can do this by myself) and got my mom over and also rang up my sister (whos got three kids) for some reassurance. I admitted I felt i couldnt cope and needed some help :o

The good news is, things did get better and easier... although i admit there are still days when i wish i could just curl up in bed by myself and just sleep sleep sleep! It's a totally life changing thing having a baby, i think i must have been in shock for the few few weeks (especially after having a quick birth).

The NHS are not being very helpfull by the sounds of it, that's terrible!! :(

  • This probably sounds a little drastic but your hospital should have a on call pychiatrist which you can ask to see. I really struggled being pregnant with depression and felt a little better knowing that if I needed it during the night it was there.

Where abouts are you? Another mad idea but maybe somebody could pop over?

TBH he sort of done it himself.
We have tried to keep him awake as much as possible during the day since he came home and has just settled into a routine.
Oh and he is bottle fed, so think that might mke a differene.

    Hi all,

    A quick question about sleep...:o

Some of the things I've read suggest that you can start to drop a night feed at around the 5 week mark, with the aim of baby sleeping for 7-8 hrs by 6 weeks (baby whisperer) whilst others seem to be saying that 12 weeks is more normal. Seems quite a wide variation, and I wondered what you lot thought?

Emlou, MFD, and Redmel, you all had your babies at roughly the same time as me, how's your sleep going?;):D

Erm, yummy/slummy mummy? I think I've missed something! Feeling a bit flabby at the mo, so can I be 'tummy mummy' please!?

    Love Weezl
Thing is with that is, how do you drop a feed? surely if bubs wakes up then he/she is hungry?
Ryan goes 5 hours between feeds at nights, and he wakes has a feed then goes straight back to sleep so we dont feel too much of the impact of sleepless nights.
I struggled for 18 months with sleepless nights with DS1

I came across something called a Bed Bug Bumper recently. You can use them under normal bedding to act as a normal bed guard, but they can also be used for stopping small babies rolling out etc. I can only find them on ebay at the moment, and one length of 53cm is £5. Has anyone else tried them?
