Well, speaking of nakedness... and following on from Becles' and Choc's comments... at what age do you stop letting your children see you naked? I guess this is particularly relevant to chidlren of the opposite sex, as I wouldn't mind at all if I had a daughter to see me naked at any point (well, you know what I mean! :o).

My DS1 is 5 1/2 and he does occasionally get a glimpse of me rushing for the shower in the morning, and if I take him swimming by myself we obviously share a changing room... He doesn't bat an eyelid, which is kinda my objective. I realise there will be a time when he will be obsessed with female bodies , so I want him to know what normal women look like IYSWIM and not to make a big deal out of it.

Does that make me sound like an old hippie? :rotfl:I don't know... Just wondering what the cut-off point is for this sort of thing? I realise this depends on the indiviual family etc, but was just wondering what your thoughts are?

When they start making "oh hhh muum" type comments and hiding their eyes here :rotfl:...ds1 was about 8 when he started to get body conscious, not that I'm one to wonder round nakid though but even changing a top in front of him now he doesn't like to look. He's the same about his sausage too....:D I have to hide my eyes if I go in the bathroom to give him a clean towel..lol.

Imogen spotted DH's 'bits' the other day when he got out of the shower. It's probably the first time she's registered them - although she likes to look at my boobs & nipples :rotfl:

Conversation went a bit like this:
    "Daddy, what are you doing?"
"I'm getting dry," rubs himself with towel
"What are you doing with your dinky?" - our word for her bits

Cue worried look at me from DH. I left him to deal with it himself!

    "It's not my dinky,"
    "Yes it is,"
"No it's not, it's my willy,"
    "Willy?"
    "Yes,"
    "Oh,"

That's where it ended! Personally I'd have let her call it a dinky and we could have dealt with 'correct' anatomy at another point, but if he wanted to correct her, then that's fine.

Imogen sees us both naked in bed on a morning when she comes in for a cuddle (no PJs in this house for grown-ups) so she isn't really phased by it.

On the same subject, my SIL took my nephew (%) and her friend's little girl (7) swimming last week. They all got changed together, which was fine until she proudly told my nephew, "You know, I've got a vagina!" Quick change of subject from my SIL who didn't really want to get into a discussion with someone else's child.

Have just finished painting Imogen's bedroom furniture :money: It's beautiful solid pine stuff my parents had made about 20 years ago. But it's that horrid orange antique pine colour - or it was. It's now a lovely shade of matt off-white to match her bed. MY step-dad is coming next week to build her a wardrobe and shelves which I'll paint in the same stuff - total cost for a double set of drawers, tall boy with three shelves and bespoke wardrobe/bookcase - less than £100! :money::money:

    @ Lu: Dinky i21-8.jpg hilarious!

Mine is just 10 months old so we have such comical moments to come.
  • my DD (nearly 9) sees me naked all the time, she always seems to be around when im getting dressed, she quite often follows me into the toilet aswell,
she has quite recently started getting modest about her own body around my OH (not her dad) where as before she would wander around in the nip happy as you like!
she has always been obsessed with boobies, particularly nipples!!! but is mortified when i suggest she might be getting some soon "Im too young...IM TOO YOUNG!"

she always likes to watch when im changing her brothers nappy too, i think its the only willy she has ever seen...
she knows all the "proper" words but prefers anything from 'flossy' to 'minnie' for her own bits, but one mention of the word penis doubles her over with an enormous fit of giggles

I used to work for jessops, we had a digital passport camera, and special background cushion specifically to take baby passport photographs. We would lay the baby on the cushion and get mum or dad to get their attention sort of above us and usually manage to get a decent acceptable picture. If you have got a rattle that makes a enough noise to catch their attention so they will look at the camera thats great. We had the same passport pic checking equipment as the post office so we could check we had got it right. Be prepared to look a bit silly in the shop though waving a rattle around above the head of the member of staff taking the picture! :D

All jessops shops should have the same equipment, but its probably best if you go in when the shop is quiet if possible.

Just thought it might be easier than trying to hold the baby in a booth!

We went to a local chemist who does this but Tom still wasn't happy. His photo has a really turned down mouth and tears rolling down his face. Was the best we could get though! Luckily passport photo rules are more relaxed for very small children!

Probably about 7 or 8 with DS - round about the time he started locking the door when he went in the bathroom. DD is ten and isn't shy around me so much but she does shut the door when she goes in the bath. She thinks nothing of wandering in while I'm in the shower and using the toilet though

The worst time though was when she was about 5 or 6 and i was in the shower and she came in to ask me a question... accompanied by a friend... who was in my class at the time! I've never moved so fast to pull the curtain round me!! I did apologise to her Mam who wasn't particularly bothered and said they'd wandered in to speak to her while she was on the toilet. Not sure which is worse! I think maybe we ought to start locking our bathroom doors!

I think you take your cue from the child, to a certain extent. DH is a naturist, and wanders around with nowt on each morning. I don't mind being naked in naturist venues, but I tend to cover up at home because as well as DH and the 3 DSs, we share the house with another chap and I don't think he wants to see my bits. Not sure he wants to see DH's either, but they can sort that out between them. I will talk to the boys in just bra and pants, and if they wander into the bedroom while I've got less than that on, I don't mind if they don't. They back off and look down. :rotfl:

When the boys were young we visited a naturist club and they were MOST unimpressed. It wasn't everyone else not wearing clothes that they objected to, it was the fact that if they wanted to swim, they had to do so naked. I could have told DH they would be like that, because DS1 turned modest at the age of 6 and I haven't seen him in less than pants since. But DH had to see it for himself.

DS2 wanders from shower to bedroom in his full glory, but doesn't hang about and pokes his head round the bedroom door if I start talking to him.

DS3 likes to parade in just his pants when it's hot, and topless but with jeans in winter. Brrrrr. That's unless any visitors arrive. Then you don't see him for dust, as he has to put on a t-shirt before any 'outsider' sees him. He also wears a towel for the shower-to-bedroom parade.

Good god caz you've started a naked talk epidemic:rotfl:

Ok I've come up with a plan to get a good night sleep away from hubby snoring and no it's not a spare room as we don't have one. It involves shoving 2 tampons somewhere!!!! Hopefully far enough up so he stops snoring, it was just a thought I had whilst changing LO nappy as she was playing with tampons (don't ask) and she had them in her ear!! Ping there went the lightbulb moment. I think he'd kill me if he woke up with nothing but string hangin out his nose!!
