Talking about sleep, we have no problems with Natasha sleeping at night but the day time naps.

She fights and fights having a nap and I usually end up taking her for a walk and letting her sleep in the pushchair BUT this morning I put her in her cot whilst I went to the loo, she was playing happily with her slippers then just lay down, put her dummy in and went to sleep in about 2 minutes!

Its only been 10 minutes and she has slippers on both hands but great if she going to be happy to go off herself again (she did this until about 6 months)

ella Oz used to be awful to get to sleep in the day, but i realised one day that i was trying to put him down when he was overtired and he wouldnt sleep, so from then on as soon as he looked even a wee bit tired or grumpy or yawned or rubbed his face then straight into his cot and it worked - he went to sleep himself.

He eventually fell into the routine he's in now which is a 1-2 hour nap at around 9am. Afternoons are still a bit hit and miss cos thats when i tend to be out and about, but i try to put him down again around 2-3pm and would sleep for about an hour.

Thanks nadnad, I did think that I should possibly put her to bed before she gets to the really grumpy stage but I also thought it would be easier if she was worn out.

Thinking about it aswell, she always sleeps longer if she nods of when she doesnt look too tired. I always used to put her down awake and she would always go off herself but it started to become less and less, prehaps it was the novelty of being able to roll over, sit up, stand up, bang the door etc in her cot and I should of kept trying.......

yeah i always find if i put Oz down when he's too tired he wakes up relatively quickly, likewise if hes not slept much in the day his nights are usually not so good.

  • We were talking about sleep at the baby massage class the other week, and someone was saying it's not surprising they have phases of not sleeping as well - suddenly being able to crawl/walk must be very exciting. The same as if you or I suddenly learnt how to fly - we would be FAR to excited to sleep if that happened!

We had an hour and half down the allotment, before having to come home for a nap. I thought I was going to have to feed her a bit first, but I put her down in the cot while I went to the loo, and by the time I came back she was well away. I'm going to see if I can get a nap in myself now. I have loads I should be getting on with, but I will be far more productive if I'm not as tired. (Or far more able to procrastinate anyway ;))

  • I spoke too soon too!! She went 20 minutes, woke up crying (very unusual) then spent 20 minutes on my knee sobbing.....I think she felt she had been conned!

    One more quick question.

I'd really like to talk to someone about my options with feeding, whether it is right for me to express, if I should try harder with breastfeeding or if I should switch to formula.

Its all quite complicated and complex, there are a lot of other issues going on.

Any ideas who I can talk to, to make sure I'm making the right choice for me and the baby?

There should be an infant feeding co-ordinator at your hospital, try giving the post natal ward a call and see if she's available..
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

this is going to sound weird, but if it was me i would pretend that the descision had been made for me... say to carry on BFing,
and thats how it has to be...
my gut reaction to that would tell me wether i was truly happy with it,
god this is hard to explain, its like when you think you dont mind either way about something but then you toss a coin and it lands on the 'wrong' side,
but you didnt know there was a wrong side til it happened

    does that make sense?
    no?

    oh.... fishsticks!
