Afternoon all, been to dr's and have got some drops for Henry's conjunctivitus so hopefully this will help.
Not going to say much on the BF/FF debate apart from BF didnt work for me and tbh think Lo was much better with FF. But each to their own and my outlook on life is that everyone is entitled to their own opinion as long as you respect that my opinion might differ from yours, I'll respect yours.
Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine (if you have some)Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0 -
I agree with CG - that article is scaremongering nonsense.
It does nothing to take into account all the millions of differences (social, ecomonic and 'class' if I dare say it) between breast and bottle fed babies and seeks to blame every possible problem on the fact that a baby has been bottle fed. Blatant b0ll0x in my opinion.
Sorry Krystal.

caz, dont worry about leaving her for a short while, i have to do it with seth all the time for the sake of my sanity, he is SO clingy that if i didnt i would never shower, eat, go to the loo... he is getting better, he managed 20 mins in his bouncy chair earlier before the screaming started!
as for that article... i'm just glad i am of a balanced mind cos if i'd read that 2 weeks ago when i'd just swapped from boob to formula i would have been in pieces. i refuse to look at my baby and believe that he is now at twice the risk of dying and 8 times more likely to get cancer, i rarely listen to this kind of research anyway - luckily! a few weeks they were telling us if we ate sausages we were going to get cancer as well, and sausages have been part of the staple english diet for many years.Mummy to

On a humerous note - my 19 year old niece is 26 weeks pregnant and says that she will not consider breastfeeding because she had a dream that her nipples fell off :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I will have a proper chat with her at some point (her mum, my SIL, thinks that breastfeeding is an inconvenience at best so I think she needs someone to have a proper discussion with) but when she told me all I could do was laugh!!please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
I have to ask though, Krystal, what on earth are you going to do if you cant Bfeed this new baby? what if your milk doesnt come in? what if it isnt good enough?
what if the baby refuses to latch/drink? or one of the many other circumstances arise that make people with all the best intentions in the world give up?
it says in your article that bottlefeeding increases the chances of cot death by at least two fold, so expressing is out too surely....
ok,ok... point made, im grown up enough to realise this arguing isnt going to get us anywhere,
there is no "right" answer, so by the same token there is NO wrong answer either
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, as a change of subject, Daniels 1st wiggles and giggles club started 6 minutes ago... and he is fast asleep in his high chair!
poo, i really wanted to go too!0 -
Thanks for the ideas on the getting dressed battle. This morning she hadn't had breakfast but that didn't seem to be any incentive! We can manage it in 15 mins with 2 of us on a work morning (Mon-Weds normally) but somehow she seems to really hate the idea when we're off.
Will try getting her to help pick the clothes tonight. I wanted one of those lovely clothes peg things anyway (very shabby chic) so it will be a good excuse to buy one!
Sami - I reckon she is more like 12. I was hurrying her to get in her car seat on saturday (late for ballet class) when she said, "Alright Mummy, just bear with me..." :rotfl::rotfl: I know where she's got it from (me, humph) but it seriously isn't funny when we're in a rush! She first told me to "chill out" at about 19 months old. What on earth am I going to do in the long term?!
On another note, I'm trying to find a shop locally which stocks the Bebe Confort Creatis car seat so we can try it in our cars. We need one with a base and it's the cheapest I can find on the internet without feeling like I'm compromising on quality. I called a local shop who told me they charge £15 to try a car seat or pram in your car unless you're buying from them. The cheek of it! The seat plus base is about £60 more expensive from them than off the internet. They even specifically said it was to avoid people trying at their shop and then buying off the internet. I can understand that, but then there must be something they can do with the price to make themselves more competitive. I believe the article is broader than breast vs bottle and more about global strategies and propaganda employed by manufacturers... But maybe that's just the angle I'm looking at it from...
CG, I'm far from an expert, I've never claimed to be. I also don't aim to 'scaremonger' either. What I do is offer information and support. It is up to other people what they do with that information and I have certainly never 'bullied' anyone into doing anything!
I believe in making informed choices, and for me personally that means researching things and then making my choice. If someone asks me my opinion I will give it. I don't blindly go along with 'I'm sure that will be fine' The truth is, babies die from drinking formula, a lot of them in developing countries that have no access to clean water or sterile conditions, but also in developed countries too. The recent Chinese crisis saw babies die from unscrupulous manufacturers mixing melamine into the powder to bulk it out... In 2002 a baby in Belgium died from meningitis caused by the Enterobacter Sakazakii bacteria that can live in formula milk... The parents of the baby tried to sue Nestle but the judge claimed there was no case to answer to because all parents know the 'risks associated with formula feeding' but with companies blatantly ignoring legislation and breaking laws concerning advertising and promotion of formula milk, how many people actually know the risks?A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... Lu, where in west yorks are you? I'm in Pudsey and have a creatis you are welcome to try in your car, I don't have the base for it though so it might not help trying it without the base?
Krystal I thought the article was very interesting and some of the contents of it (underhand tactics by manufacturers) should definitely be communicated to pregnant ladies to help them make a more informed choice., but knowing some of the scarier bits of it isn't going to help those who do have to switch to formula for whatever reason.MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -

I have a slightly more user friendly article here (From the magazine the ecologist)... For those that feel they might be offended... Don't click the link...
I have just read this article all the way through. I agree the beginning of the article is scareminging and there are parts of it that could make FF mum feel guilty (which they shouldn't), but overall it is a very well written article and I learnt alot from it. I BF Rhys until he was 15 months old, he'd have the occasional FF bottle in the evening from 7 months, but prior to that was exclusive. We had horrenous problems until he was 6 weeks old, trush, painful nipples and almost constant feeding, but after finally getting some support from NCT BF group we came through it and I only gave up in the new year because he was regularly biting me.
I intend to BF any subsequent babies, but as my SIL found out it isn't always possible, although I intend to try.0 -
Thanks Millie's mum, we're in Wakefield, so not far. But I'm certain we need to try the base as our seat belts aren't long enough. DH has a brand new focus so you'd think they would be okay, but no! It's like some kind of conspiracy between the car seat mfctrs and the car mfctrs! I think my old Fiesta is a bit of a push too.
