My sister looked into fostering when my neice was a baby, she told me that someone said to her she should wait until her own was old enough to talk... But that could just be my sister and her wierd attitude... (She treats every situation like a potential for abuse)

  • Well I officially have a toddler on my hands - Ruby has walked all day today wth no crawling and can even manage to get herself to standing:j It was her birthday on Thursday and I was so emotional as it seems she is no longer a baby:p

  • Hi All... busy few days on here! We've been busy here - new kitchen is built, just needs cosmetic bits (tiles and whatnot), so now I can get things put away finally, and sort out spare room, so that it can be Izzy's room properly :)

Hugs to all of you with poorly little ones :(

Re breastpumps, I have the boots own hand pump, which took a bit of getting used to, but I'm fine with it now. I have been using it at the same time as feeding, which works ok. We've still not managed to get Izzy to drink very much of it mind you. We're going to keep trying for a bit longer, but otherwise it's not the end of the world.

Re carseats, we have a hand-me-down Maxi-cosi plus from when our nephew was little. It is really easy to use and handy to carry around, but she is getting a bit heavy for me now!

Welsh Lassie, unless it changes by area (quite likely as each area tends to do its own thing) you can foster whenever :D
We're hoping to foster too but I have decided to have my 2 babies first and wait for them both to be at school so they aren't too disrupted, I also plan to request that we only house children younger than mine - just a personal thing as I feel like its important for Chris to keep his big bro role that will be nicely established by then :D
My sister has a friend that fostered a young boy before having any kids but had to send him back once they'd had their own baby as he tried to rape the baby  they had already had to get rid of their cat and dog as he was physically abusive towards them. Hope that doesn't put you off :undecided it obviously hasn't put me off but did make us discuss it alot which is why we decided to wait until ours are at school etc
One other point is that most areas say you must have a spare room for the foster child, they must not be expected to share a bedroom (another reason we're waiting because we don't have the space yet!)
Good luck with it all and keep us posted, I'd love to follow your progress :D

re fostering - it may well change with the area, but I looked into it in the past and here there couldnt be any children under 2 years old in the house. It may have changed since then and that may have been one particular board though - i cant remember, must look again.

By the time we get approved and sorted Rhys will be 2 (in August) so no issue there. We have 2 spare rooms so plenty of room. We've been looking into it for such a long time and are aware of the issues, but don't actually know anyone who has done it with kids.

I'm another one who is really interested in fostering, I am still thinking of baby number 4 of my own at the moment so it wouldn't be for a few years yet.

I was talking to a regular customer and she said she was advised, by the fostering agency, to only foster children younger than her own....She has been doing it for about 20 odd years, so now her own children have left home she now fosters all ages.

I actually think that is quite good advice as although you want the foster children to feel secure and safe in your house, it might be detrimental to your own children if an older (strange) child was suddenly put into a kind of big brother/sister role, even if only for a short while.

Aww pink princess, congratulations on your toddler! I can remember how sad I was when Aimee started walking... It's the final milestone isn't it... Once they can do it they're no longer babies...

  • Don't worry Krystal, you will have a new one soon :)

I kep reading about putting babies to play on their fronts so they can strengthen the muscles they need to roll over/crawl. I try to do this for a little while, but Izzy hates it, so we normally only manage for a minute or two, even with lots of distraction to make it fun. Is this normal at 11 weeks, or should I be trying to do it more times a day? I'm guessing that as she gets stronger she will be able to prop herself up easier and won't mind it as much.
