lwcus78, big hugs, hope you get it sorted soon.

Joseph and I had our first converstion this morning! This is with a child who just mumbles mama all the time and has a vocab of three words if that. He came up to me, took his dummy out and said 'poo'. Have you had a poo? I asked. 'Yeah' came the reply. It was soooooo cute!! :happyhear If that wasn't clever enough, he had actually had a poo and happily let me change him. Oh the things that impress us mothers!

Thanks everyone for thoughts about Oz. He didn't do too badly last night - didnt go to sleep til 8pm but was only up once and slept til 7am. He hasnt had another "barking" (its too severe to be called coughing!) episode, and just seems really bunged up with the cold, poor little man.

Lwcus - I dont know what to say other than I hope you get the appt with the paediatrician and I hope he/she can help. Big hugs in the meantime.

R.mac - re breastpumps, I initially used the avent handpump (lent to me by a friend) which was fantastic - really easy to use and I found i could express a lot of milk with it, then I bought the tommee tippee one (on sale in asda £10) and found it very uncomfortable and didnt manage to express 1 drop of milk with it!! so went back to the Avent one. So no advice re electric ones, but big recommendation for Avent hand pump.

aww thats lovely :T . Oz has started saying more than mamma and dadda now - he said ted the other day (big blue teddy bear), and says "ight" for lights which he is obsessed with, and when we went to my dads house i was showing him the !!!!! cat and he said "pssss". I was very impressed!!

edit - big brother took away my totally innocent p u s s y cat!!!

R.mac - I think the Medela pump is supposed to be very good (expensive as well! ). I don't have personal experience but that's what everyone I know who has used electric pumps has said. :D

Lwcus - I'm so sorry to hear that, hope you get the appointment very soon. Poor little guy! :(

Nadnad - sorry to hear about the croup. We've been there with DS1 and I know how worrying it is when it actually happens. The good thing is, the worst part usually only lasts a relatively short time.

Redmel - sending your DH a virtual slap! I can't believe you're doing all that housework with a newborn baby! And what is it with men and their computer games!

MFD - glad the scan went ok. :)

Can't help with pump recommendations I'm afraid... But have you tried expressing from one side while she feeds from the other? Can be a bit tricky to start with but once you get it figured out it's a great way to get more milk...

Just been to Aimee's school for an 'inspiration day' basically helping them make easter bonnets... Poor Aimee's not herself at the minute... Hasn't completely recovered from what knocked her about last week, plus we had my brothers wedding Saturday so she had a really late night followed by her usual early morning... She was awake on and off in the night with earache... And I had to wake her at 8:15 otherwise she'd of been late for school... Had to leave her looking all sad with her teacher... She said she had a tummy ache when it was time for me to leave :(
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...

I have tried this - but don't seem to have enough hands as I find the hand pump difficult to use. I've never managed to get more than 1 oz -that's from both breasts and took ages. I'm hoping the electric one will be more effective than me!

hugs to aimee - I hope she feels better soon x

    Ta, me too!

Does your local maternity unit have an electric pump you could borrow? The hospital I work in has a couple on the post natal ward that can be borrowed but we don't advertise the service so not many people know... It might be worth giving them a call and asking before you fork out for an expensive one... Just in case they don't work too well either...

r.mac I think you can hire medla ones direct from medla too if you wanted to try before you buy, not sure if its cost effective tho!?

    Hi everyone!

Can i join in on here? I'm a SAHM to 3 children. My eldest DS is coming up 6, DS2 is 4 and my DD is 14 months.
    Slightly worn out mum to 3 (DS1 May 03, DS2 Feb 05, DD1 Feb 08). When i grow up i think i'll become a UN Peace keeper....
  • r.mac - I have been thinking of an electric pump too, although I have had more success with the tommee tippee than you. I know Benjamin is only 16 days so it's 'too early' to introduce a bottle but to be honest, nothing is going to put this little boy off breastfeeding, since my milk came in it has never taken me more than 10 seconds to get him to latch on (my definition of struggling :o )

I expressed 3 ounces in about 20 mins but the tt handpump seems a bit flimsy to me and I can only work it withmy right hand!! I had a terrible evening with Benjamin when I expressed in the afternoon though, he just wouldn't settle...on the breast or anywhere, not sure if that had anything to do with it...

Have you tried brest shells to collect naturally as you feed? I hate to think how much milk I waste on breast pads :rotfl:

The mothercare meteor was on sale online the other day in the 'last chance to buy' section so it may have been discontinued (or it could just be the colour!)

Hiya melon - I'm a newbie too - 16 days in and counting!!
