SusanC, didnt mean to sound off, its just they asked how Henry was and then everything we said, it was 'oh only 5 teeth George has 8 teeth already, really not walking... he's in the top 10% for his age you know etc etc' and OH just said to me, doesn't sit sound like they are trying to outdo you with LO? It just seemed that their little boy was soo much better at things than Henry.

Some people do just like to say things like that. I don't really understand it - like as if having more teeth makes them more intelligent or something??? When I had DS my cousin had a baby the same time and if I said DS could crawl, their baby could walk; if DS could say two words their baby could say four, that sort of thing. It's just like one-upmanship and it makes some people happy. By the time they start school they can all walk and talk and have all their teeth so I wouldn't worry about it as no-one ever asks how old they were when they did these things and there's no certificate for who did it first.

One of Tom's little friends was born a few days after him (We met on here - Hi ella_ella_ella and Natasha!) and she is doing way more things than Tom but I'm sure he'll catch up in his own time and in the meantime Natasha'a Mum is lovely enough not to comment on the difference.
Just smile sweetly and take no notice!!
  • We are currently in my 14 year old DS's bedroom where the computer is and Tom is merrily emptying one of DS's drawers full of animals and dinosaurs from when he was a lot younger. Half of me is thinking "What a mess!" and the other half is thanking my lucky stars that he's sitting entertaining himself for more than a minute as I don't think he's ever played by himself for longer than a minute or two without whinging!!

No worries. My mum used to have friend with a baby born the same day as me but in the end she stopped visiting her because the response to anything my mum said I did was, "Frances did that two weeks ago." so in the end my mum got fed up of it. Years later she bumped into this lady and it turned out she was really worried because her daughter was a bit of a drop out so it just goes to show that what they are like now is no indication of what they will be like in the future.

    Hi all

So glad it's a nice sunny day as I too am getting little sleep. Not sure if its a growth spurt but LO was up at 12-2, 3-4 and then again at 6am ....needless to say he didn't bother to wake for our 7am feed but that's no consolation when you have to rush around getting a bigun to school!!

To cap it all ds1 thought it was non uniform day today when it's actually next week (dohhh). So then I had to walk back to school with uniform for him (I was too tired this morning to argue with him about dates - thought he must know as they usually talk about what they are going to wear and stuff so figured he would know...).

Archie is just recovering now from a bad cold/cough and has sticky eye as well mascabs - we must be living in parallel worlds....

I second the opinions above about competetive mums btw - and I'd like to add that they quite often lie or at least embelish. For example my lo has been cruising since 7 1/2 mths but prefers to crawl when away from something to hold onto so in my mind hs's not yet walking....lots of other mum's would see this as walking though and shove it down your throat as if it actually matters...lol....and really it makes no difference whatsoever, my ds1 didn't bother much with talking until 18mths to 2 yrs but that certainly doesn't stop him being in all the top groups at school now....and yes if you try hard to teach them certain skills they will learn them but I think it's way more satisfying for them to evolve in fits and starts than to be force fed skills before they are ready.

    Morning all

Had great fun last night. Bathed LO, changed him for bed and was going to give him his milk. Sat on the sofa and he took most of his bottle, was about to wind him and he just threw up like something out of the exorcist!! Needless to say I know exactly what was in the lasagne at nursery... OMG it smelt so bad...I was covered, the sofa was covered, he was covered but what made me laugh was the dog then wanting to eat it up !!

Keeley when your baby is 6 weeks old your HV will come back and ask you to do a quiz to see if your ok. Its to assess you for PND. Yoou need to answer the quewstions honestly and if it looks like your heading to PND then they will offer you help via various means.

You've only got a few weeks until this happens so time to see how things pan out.
Or you don't have to wait for the 6 week check up, you could phone and chat to your HV now about how you're feeling.

Unless they've changed it, I didn't find the 6 week checkup very helpful. The questionnaire said to answer how you feel NOW, and right there and then I was fine - always was whenever anyone was with me, it was when I was on my own I went to bits.

But get out as much as you can while the sun's shining ... I'm sure that helps!

  • Hey all, hope all mummys [and LOs] are well today!

I got a phone call yesterday inviting me to a group interview for a job I applied for, in a couple of weeks. Ahhh Ive been out of the working loop for 3 years now, but now DS is in fulltime school its time to get back out there. Really nervous, and never been to a 'group interview' before. Has anyone else? Ive posted a thread in the 'employment, jobseeking..' section if anyone has any advice for me!!!

    Congrats on the interview :T

I have been to a group one. There were some group exercises so they could watch how you perform as part of a team. Tricky one as you have to try to be involved, but not too involved!

The exercises tend to be a bit silly. Like here's a pile of rubbish, build a vehicle/build something to solve a problem. After that they interviewed anyone they were interested in. It took pretty much the whole day, but mainly 'cos I was one of the last to be interviewed. Can you get any more detail of the HR dep't at the company?

Just got back from a fab day at Chester Zoo. Thoroughly recommend it for people with LOs aged 18mths+. Think it might have been a waste if we'd gone when she was younger.

Luckily I have a friend who works there and she met us and gave us a personal tour for the first 90 mins, so that was great! We saw the new lion cub (born in August, but hasn't been out much until now), a pregnant Rhino (due tomorrow  ), lots of monkeys of all sizes and colours, the giraffes, elephants, fish... We even went into the bat exhibit, which has them flying around you with no barriers. MIL didn't come into this one, but me, hubby and Imogen went and she LOVED it! My friend wondered if she'd be a bit scared, but we were quite confident so I think she picked up that it was fine. We spent ages watching them - some are as big as 4 feet wide when they fly:eek: Smelt a bit though!

If you fancy going you can often get discounted tickets at Lastminute.com Make sure you GiftAid if you're a tax payer though, as Chester Zoo is a charity.

Just on the wind down to bedtime. Hope you've all had good days.
