  • hi everyone

Keeleykat - i think getting out is a good idea, especially as the weather is not mild, it will do you good. The reality of having a baby is so different from what we all expect - in fact i think that sometimes we only think as far as giving birth and not really that we will have a baby to look after 24 hours a day! Glad to hear you are getting support from your mum, a bit of adult conversation each day can make a day brighter. Hope the colic goes soon.

Hope everyone else is doing OK. Septemberbaby - can't believe Poppy is 1 already, before we know it you will be telling us about celebrating the new baby's birthday! Hope you are doing OK and managing to put your feet up a bit (easier said than done i know).

Keeley - I didn't make any friends at my ante-natal classes. Everyone left early like at yours. I did make a big group of about 12 friends at various classes though - a breastfeeding support group, a new mum's group and baby massage at the local Sure Start. So don't worry, you won't end up friend-less!

And remember, everyone else is feeling almost exactly the same as you. It all sounds pretty normal to me, although I remember that it feels far from normal at the time. Big **hugs** and hope you're feeling better soon. Sounds like you're doing the right things getting out (can't say too much how important that is) and having your mum round.

I lay in the bath on Sunday when OH took Imogen out for an hour and thought that I couldn't remember the last time I'd been in the house on my own! It was lovely, but I needed to get up to do some work for my interview on Monday, so I didn't take full advantage.

Still, one more weekend of work and then it will all be over, phew! And bonus! We're going to Chester Zoo on Friday. Any ideas what noise a spider makes?!:rotfl: :rotfl: I'm trying to teach Imogen lots of animals. She can do pretty much any you can name (including tonight's addition - "pretty polly" for a parrot!) but there are some we just can't think of noises to demonstrate!

I think going for a walk is a good idea.

I've got a dog, so I have to go for a walk every day. Sometimes it's a chore when the weather is bad, but once I get out there, I enjoy the fresh air. There's a massive open grassy field and woods with a stream just out the back of my house, and it's a good chill out zone. I just wander round noticing the changes in the trees and stuff and enjoying the peace and quiet (I usually go alone or with Charlotte). I bump into the same faces walking their dogs and people say hello, comment on the weather - that kind of thing. It really brightens up my day.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Keeley when your baby is 6 weeks old your HV will come back and ask you to do a quiz to see if your ok. Its to assess you for PND. Yoou need to answer the quewstions honestly and if it looks like your heading to PND then they will offer you help via various means.

You've only got a few weeks until this happens so time to see how things pan out.

    good luck.

    Morning all,

Having problems with Henry sleeping at the moment. No 2 nights are the same, sometimes he goes to bed and sleeps through til 4, but other nights he wakes up at 12, 2, 4 and wont settle in his cot only in our bed. Half the time I dont even think he is fully awake but it is so disruptive especially as I in the office 4 days a week and OH is now driving tankers so needs his sleep more! This bit is really getting me down.
He still has this awful cough on and off (deciding whether to go to drs again)and the last few days has woken up with a gunky eye...hope its not conjunctivitus!!
Went out the other week and some friends were raving about their LO (born Jan 08)walking, how many teeth etc.. talk about being competitive!

Suppose on the plus side food is definately not a problem, he eats anything, ginger biscuits, prawn toast, black pudding its unbelievable really. In 12-18 month clothes already.

Thanks for the time and space to winge and whine... feel so much better for it. Love and hugs to all.xx
Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.

Im so glad my mom did come over today, felt a bit daft asking, and silly, but i just needed some support and reassurance that Elliot was ok and to help calm me down.

I'm really hoping this is just baby blues and not some sort of depression thats creaping up-ive had to keep telling my hubby i just dont feel myself and i need support. I cant explain why i feel strange, normally id be fine even in this kind of situation. He's finally seeing that i cant help it and dont like being like this. Him being tired hasnt helped either, we re both as grumpy as each other!!

It's not silly at all to need help, this is why people lived in extended families historically! My mum's been coming over twice a week and Himself is still at home, we'd be eating ready meals off paper plates if she didn't (while wearing some seriously grotty clothes)!

Keep talking to your midwife, I've been very down as well, I had AND while I was pregnant so my midwife has kept a bit more of an eye on me. As far as I understand it if it's the 'baby blues' it will ease off given time, but if it's PND then it will stay, so try not to worry, chances are given a few days you'll start to feel more like yourself again.

I hope you have a nice walk out today (I'm planning on attempting the same thing, we've only tried the buggy once so far and she was not happy with it *whimper*) :-)

    Hello, me again :p

I've been good today-i went for it and actually went out for a half hour walk with Elliot. The suns shining, so getting out did seem to cheer me up a bit and he dozed off! :o i will see how things are later-and maybe go for another walk to make most of the nice weather.

The colic drops did seem to help last night and as he'd been more awake in day, he actually slept better and only took half hour to be fed and back in cot. i know this wont happen every day but last night was lovely! one night makes a difference.

Of course I don't know them but it could be that they're just excited and haven't really thought about the comparison. I have a friend who's baby is four months older than Alice but he sat up about the same time and crawled/walked later. I had to make a particular effort to not comment on it as I knew she was bothered about it so it may be that they just haven't thought about it. Anyway, nine months for walking is very early and the later they get teeth the better.
