Oh Choc, that really made me giggle! A fish and a plant to look after! Perhaps you can use them as a way to teach the kids about responsibility (feeding, watering, generally looking after). That way you absolve yourself of responsibility when they eventually die - sounds like that was going to happen anyway!
Oh believe me, they WILL be looking after them! They already look after the rabbit; I don't help at all. As if it wasn't enough that I have to remember to water 30 sunflowers at school, not to mention the beans that are growing in soil, cotton wool, paper towels and not growing in sand (to prove that seeds don't need soil to grow) and the flowers in the window and the cupboard (to show that plants need light to grow well) and remembering NOT to water one of the pots - to show that plants need water to grow. Can you tell I don't like gardening???0 -
Evening all, well Mothers day only brought me the card that LO made in nursery on Friday and OH cooking dinner for me, my parents, brother and SIL (but he normally cooks anyway) I bought my own flowers yesterday.
Hey Curious George I live in Essex too, well borders of Essex and London really..... I was also really sad to hear about Jade, just really feel for her two boys.Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0 -
Hi all. I got off lightly in the end as Olivia was only sick the once. Think she got rid of it in one fell swoop, there was soooooooooooo much of it. I've got a tummy upset today, nothing too drastic, so hoping that is how it affects adults as I hate sickness bugs with a vengeance. Keeping fingers crossed that Izzy doesn't get it as I will have to take time off work which I always feel uncomfortable about, even though I work in a school and there are lots of mums in the same boat. I always feel really guilty like I'm skiving.
If you're squeamish, please don't read on, but just wondering how other mums cope with clearing up copious amounts of vomit?? I know at school the caretaker puts down some sort of crystal stuff that sucks it up I think and makes it easier to deal with. Anyone know of a good way of dealing with it as I struggled last night big time, there was literally pints of the stuff and I couldn't put the bedclothes straight into the washer like that, so sort of rinsed it in the bath first. It was soooooo disgusting though.... sorry if tmi, but it's one of those things I wonder how others cope with???? Perhaps I should google it :rotfl:
Becles - I hope Joshua's feeling better - these kids eh, certainly had us earning our mothers day gifts!!0 -
Purple, I used to work in a theatre and part of my job was cleaning up surprising amounts of sick (hot theatre + excitement + ice cream = sick ime!). We used to use sawdust on it but cat litter works much better. Very easy to clean up and it stops it smelling too :-)
I hope Izzy doesn't get ill (and you don't get worse) and I hope all the Becles household are doing okComping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -
Anyone want a 6 month old baby for the day? elliot is driving me up the wall, i've had enough this morning. Blooming teething, i think i hate it more then him. i've got ear/head ache from his screaming.
I'm feeling like such a crap mom this morning again.
keely.Mommy to Elliot (5) and Lewis (born xmas eve 11!)0 -
Joshua seems fine this morning and has already gone to school. Hubby got it yesterday afternoon, but it affected him the other way so he was running to the loo. He's at work but he's texted to say he feels better this morning.
Bought a chicken during the week and got it out to prepare yesterday. Opened the packaging and it smelled absolutely rank. It was in date and had come straight home and been in the fridge. Had to go rushing to Tesco yesterday afternoon to get a replacement chicken and more immodium.
Charlotte is really coming on with her speaking now. She just seems to be learning new words on a daily basis. We watched the football yesterday and she can say Cisse and Kenwynne now, and she recognises their pictures on the Sunderland website
Hope today gets better for you keely and stop thinking you're a crap Mam! If it's any consolation, I think we all have days like that! Here I go again on my own....0 -
CG and Lu - i didnt think you two were bragging either! Its fantastic that you have good sleepers, I just post about Oz not sleeping through because I think its good for all the new mums to not to feel awful if their babies don't sleep through.
For the first wee while with Oz I felt a little down because everyone around me was telling me how their babies sleep through and how Oz should be by now, and then I got a new perspective - he's a tiny little man and when he wakes in the night its not because he's not a "good baby" but because he either wants a cuddle or a feed (or he's teething), and to me thats fine, I'm not going to deny him. Of course there are nights when i'm thinking "aaaagghh please sleep all night" but mostly i just get on with it. And i just like to let the new mums with non sleepers know that they're not alone!!DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

keely.
dont feel that way Keeley, its a hard job your doing and nobody bloody warned us how rough some days would be!
he cant help it and you cant help him... its a vicious circle,
my DD teethed a lot worse that DS seems too and i was known to sit on the sofa rocking her, crying along as my last nerve had been snapped and there was nothing else i could do,
fill both of you up with the appropriate painkillers and have a weepy cuddle!
can you go out for a walk later? a change of scenery might distract him, or the fresh air may knock him out and give your ears a rest,

Keelykat - have you tried an amber teething necklace? Ds had one from about that age, and it really helped - honestly! He still wears it now because he chooses to.

How do they work? Does baby just chew on the necklace?
What do u guys do if baby has longer nap than usual? My LO usually naps for 1 hr in the morning but this morning he's still sleeping 2 and half hrs later. Should I wake him or enjoy the rest? I'm worried he wont sleep well tonight.
