Happy mothers day everyone, my first ever mommy day!
keely.xMommy to Elliot (5) and Lewis (born xmas eve 11!)0 -
Happy Mother's Day girls! I made my own breakfast and took it back up to bed this am as DH was knackered from working and painting all day yesterday. He didn't even complain that we (mainly Imogen) made crumbs in the bed, which is a miracle. He just stripped it and put the sheets in the washer
Sorry if people feel I've been bragging. I didn't mean it to come across like that and I hope people know that my intention is not to make others feel like I'm the best parent and they're the worst. I like to hear everyone's ideas and experiences and then just adopt the bits I think will work for us (and for Imogen).
I think I said in an earlier post I'll be doing things differently at bedtime as in hindsight I think we could have made it easier for ourselves. And like Mel (I think) says, every child is an individual and what works for one won't work for another. Imogen was pretty good as a baby so I'm dreading this one as the law of averages says we're in for a rougher time. A friend of mine had the hardest time withbaby 1 out of all 12 of my close mummy friends, but baby 2 has thankfully been the exact opposite - and she so deserved it to be easier as DD1 is now a traditionally difficult toddler - like most 2yr olds!
Just enjoying watching Imogen use DH as a climbing frame while he complains, "Daddy is not a piece of playground equipment,"!! He's been to the pub for a few beers while Imogen napped and I rested on the sofa. We were just about to join him as she had woken up, when in he walked through the door. She just tutted at him (literally) and said she'd been looking forward to crisps (something she only gets as a special treat at the pub!).
I guess the pub is a good example of how people's views change once they're a parent and how I could be causing controversy. I was always of the staunch "pubs are not an appropriate environment for children" brigade. but our local is a lovely small pub and we're good friends with the landlord and landlady, so we sometimes take Imogen for 30mins - only at quiet times, never on an evening and we only sit in the lounge rather than busy tap room. Some people may not agree, but after we've been with the landlady to bring her horse in, it's nice to warm up by the real fire and have a quick drink. Hoping not to start a raging debate on this one, but will be interested in people's views if they want to share.
And soooooo sad about Jade. I've been through a prolonged wait for the death of someone close (also from cancer) and was privileged to be there at the end. It was horrific, and I really feel for her family and especially her boys. I'm crying now, so will stop typing!MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -

I heard jade wanted to hang on til mothers day to see her boys,
sadly when some people give themselves a target they only just manage to reach it,
ive never been a fan, i cant stand people who are happy to be as ignorant as that (sorry but i live in the wilds of essex, and we all get branded with the jade brush and it really grates! lol) but she had a much better life thanks to BB than she would ever have had otherwise, and i suppose for that she was lucky... I think the last few months could have been handled with a bit more dignity but nobody deserves what she has just gone through, the poor girl and those little boys.... with the husband about to be thrown back in prison, mummy gone... i can only imagine that harridan of a mother will get them.... and just the thought of that makes me shudder!
oh... i got my daffodils! loads of them!and i am still awaiting my cheesecake but i know its being made,
got some lovely homemade cards with handprints... my favourite kind0 -

Think I heard or read that Jade's ex is having custody of the boys and Jade's mum and husband will have access and I think that's probably the best idea. The boys' dad seems fairly sensible and I hope they will have a settled life with him.
Hope I didn't give the impression that I thought anyone was bragging as I don't at all. It's just that sometimes people seem to think as long as you follow step A, step B etc then a settled routine with a sleeping baby will follow and I just wanted to point out that's not always the case. I thought it was that simple with my eldest son. Once I thought parenting was easy I got two more children that taught me it wasn't!
Mothers' Day brought me a plant. Not to sound ungrateful but I hate plants and they usually find themselves dead and in the bin. Luckily for my brood it came accompanied by chocolates so they are forgiven. Plus we have inherited a fish that my nephew is sick of so his mum and dad have palmed it off onto us. Great - a fish and a plant - like I don't have enough to look after already.0 -

send it my way, im the touch of death to plants...
seriously i only need to walk through our local garden center and the damn things start wilting as i go by!
(keep the fish away though... i have the same effect on them too! lol)0 -
Oh Choc, that really made me giggle! A fish and a plant to look after! Perhaps you can use them as a way to teach the kids about responsibility (feeding, watering, generally looking after). That way you absolve yourself of responsibility when they eventually die - sounds like that was going to happen anyway!
V pleased with myself for bagging AA cover for £10 (£29 with £19 cashback). Luckily my car is 9 years old. 10 and it might have been excluded somehow. It's very reliable, but I do drive some distances (including 70 miles to my mum's on Weds with Imogen) so I feel better know there will be help if necessary. Hurrah for MSE, new purchase means that's more than £100 cashback we're owed!MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
